Advanced Supplier Quality Engineer

A well-established and renowned company located in Stone Mountain, GA, is currently seeking an experienced Senior Supplier Quality Engineer. This role will be responsible for overseeing the supplier production process and qualification of parts, with an emphasis on Lean Manufacturing, creating a defect-free environment, and preventing re-occurrence. The position also involves approving and developing new suppliers and technologies. As a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer, you will serve as a technical liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to address quality issues, implement and monitor advanced quality planning, and provide support based on independent judgment and industry standards. You will also qualify and approve purchased parts for mass production.

The key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Assisting in the implementation and monitoring of advanced quality planning with future product suppliers
  • Ensuring that suppliers understand product and submission requirements
  • Reviewing and approving supplier quality plans for new part programs
  • Evaluating supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems
  • Implementing and monitoring the part qualification and certification process with selected suppliers
  • Providing training in Lean Manufacturing and supporting Kaizen activities related to process and systems development
  • Identifying the root cause of supplier quality problems and coordinating effective resolutions
  • Improving the quality performance of assigned suppliers
  • Maintaining required documentation and files
  • Assisting in determining part critical characteristics and required process controls
  • Reviewing tool, fixture, and part designs, if required
  • Participating as a member or resource in product development teams

This position will involve up to 30% travel, which may require week-long trips with short notice.


Education / Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a 4-year degree or equivalent experience in the automotive or manufacturing industry. A minimum of 2 years related experience is required, although candidates without a degree must have at least 8-10 years of relevant experience. Experience in supplier quality engineering is necessary, and advanced supplier quality engineering experience in new product engineering and process changes is preferred.
