Ammonia Refrigeration Specialist – 2 open positions

An established company with a well-known brand located in Indianapolis, Indiana, is seeking skilled Ammonia Refrigeration Specialists to join their team. These positions are for the night shift in a plant environment. The company fosters an energized and impactful culture.


  • Night shift hours are from 6:15 PM to 6:45 AM
  • Work schedule is 4 days on and 4 days off


  • Starting pay is $34 per hour, with additional shift differentials for night shifts (at $0.25 per hour for the second shift and $0.30 per hour for the third shift).
  • Overtime pay of time and a half for any hours worked beyond 8 hours in a day.

  • For a 12-hour shift, the pay is equivalent to nearly $40.00 per hour, including shift differentials.


The successful candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Other duties may also be assigned.

  • Adheres to safety, PSM, environmental, SQF, and GMP policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Demonstrates excellent knowledge, judgment, and upholds high standards for the quality of work.
  • Operates, monitors, troubleshoots, tests, adjusts, and maintains the facility's utility systems.
  • Completes progressive Boiler and Ammonia Operator Training.
  • Communicates effectively in written and verbal form in all aspects of daily work.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and processes to ensure steady-state operations across multiple shifts.
  • Supports Facilities Maintenance Planner by adhering to weekly work order schedules.
  • Accurately documents and tracks work order hours and execution using CMMS (SAP PM).
  • Coordinates equipment maintenance and repairs with vendors and outside contractors, in collaboration with the Planner and Management.
  • Participates actively or leads daily shift change DDS and shutdown meetings.
  • Supports Break-Down-Analysis (BDA) and 5S for assigned Facilities areas, actively participating in continuous improvement activities through the company performance system.
  • Flexible to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Performs other assigned duties.


Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in stationary engineering, industrial maintenance, commercial HVAC, or an equivalent military role.
  • Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude with demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Must attend GCAP (or an equivalent program approved by Management) Boiler Tech 1 and complete training within 6 months.
  • Must attend GCAP (or an equivalent program approved by Management) Ammonia Operator 1 and obtain certification within 6 months.
  • Must attend GCAP (or an equivalent program approved by Management) Ammonia Operator 2 and obtain certification within 12 months.
  • Must be willing to work in a union environment.


  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • High mobility required, including lots of walking on flat surfaces and up/down stairs, with quick response to emergency situations at the facility.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work on ladders, boom lifts, forklifts, and scissor lifts may be necessary.
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment with varied temperatures.
  • Must pass respirator testing annually for PSM compliance.
