Architectural Engineer

Open Position:

We are currently seeking a Building Designer to join our team in Spring Grove, IL. As a Building Designer, you will be responsible for the layout, design, and management of building structures, foundations, and site civil needs. Your project management skills will be crucial in ensuring cost-effective and timely installations by coordinating with both internal and external contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create functional building and plant layouts, while designing reliable foundations for unique pieces of machinery.
  • Utilize 2D CAD to layout, design, and document building structures, plant/equipment layouts, and plant utilities.
  • Conduct project feasibility analysis, develop budgets, and generate project ROI.
  • Prepare detailed specifications for bid packages, obtain quotations, negotiate prices and delivery terms, review contracts, and authorize projects with vendors.
  • Develop and maintain visual schedules for building and foundation projects using project management software.
  • Schedule and provide instructions to subcontractors for construction projects, ensuring their work meets quality standards.
  • Direct a project crew for the installation and assembly of designs.
  • Oversee external contractors' work on building, foundation, and utility installations, ensuring compliance with safety guidelines.
  • Modify, redesign, and repair existing structures as required.
  • Apply deep knowledge of building structural design and heavy machinery foundation design.
  • Demonstrate expertise in plant utilities, civil engineering, building codes, and environmental codes.
  • Handle architectural and structural needs for multiple plants, including joint venture facilities.
  • Ensure design compliance with relevant codes and prioritize plant and personnel safety.

Desired Skills (not required):

  • Assist with mechanical designs using SolidWorks.
  • Experience with rigging and drafting written engineered lift plans.


  • Bachelor's degree in Architectural/Structural Engineering.
  • Strong project management skills (degree and/or experience).
  • Professional Engineering License (not required but preferred).
  • 3-5 years of experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge of permitting, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in structural blueprint reading and 2D CAD generation.
