Assistant Produce Manager Responsibilities:
As the Assistant Produce Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the produce department to ensure freshness, quality, and customer satisfaction. You will also have the opportunity to learn and transition into a Produce Buyer role. The ideal candidate should have previous experience in retail produce management, extensive knowledge of produce products, excellent inventory management skills, experience in vendor relations and negotiations, and financial expertise in the retail grocery industry.
  • Maintaining fresh and well-stocked produce items through effective ordering and inventory management.
  • Implementing product merchandising strategies to enhance visual appeal and maximize sales.
  • Using daily sales data to minimize shrinkage by managing production output efficiently.
  • Making informed purchasing decisions based on sales, profit, and market trends.
  • Forecasting market trends and assessing supplier options for quality, prices, terms, and support.
  • Coordinating freight for timely and efficient delivery of produce.
  • Procuring new and existing products while maintaining optimal inventory levels.
  • Monitoring and adjusting inventory levels to meet customer demand and minimize waste.
  • Interviewing, hiring, training, and developing department employees.
  • Conducting regular employee performance evaluations and providing feedback.
  • Planning and directing departmental work assignments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Addressing customer requests and concerns professionally to enhance satisfaction.
  • Ensuring compliance with state, local, and company health and safety policies.
  • Collaborating with leadership to effectively execute company directives and promotional campaigns.
  • Implementing strategies aligned with company goals and growth objectives.
  • Establishing and enforcing operational policies consistent with organizational objectives.
  • Evaluating departmental operations regularly and reporting results to the main office.
  • Developing and maintaining effective communication channels within the department.
  • Using Google Docs and Spreadsheets for documentation and data analysis.
  • Leveraging PowerBi for advanced data analytics and reporting.
  • Utilizing BRData for inventory and procurement management.


Assistant Produce Manager Requirements:
To qualify for this role, you must have:
  • At least five years of experience in retail produce management.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and develop employees effectively.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in multitasking within a fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of government regulations and strong analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software.
  • Proficiency in Retail Math.
  • Ability to lift weights up to 50 pounds consistently.
  • Capable of working in warm, wet, and cold environments as needed.
  • Ability to work on your feet for most of the day.
  • Fluency in English; bilingual in any language is a plus.
  • Ability to operate forklifts with proper training.
