Asst. Pulp Mill Superintendent (JN-21636)

Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW: This is a key role in the manufacturing department that involves overseeing daily operations, implementing production improvements, and ensuring the efficient and safe functioning of the Kraft, Recaust, and Recycle areas of the fibers department.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborate with the Fiber (Pulp) Manufacturing Manager to supervise shift supervisors and hourly employees in the operation of the process, which includes 3 continuous Kamyr digesters, recaust plant, and recycle fiber plant.
  • Take accountability for area performance based on established key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, environmental compliance, housekeeping, quality, and productivity.
  • Lead the safety initiatives to achieve zero injuries and support the mill's transition to a safety-focused culture.
  • Provide direction for operations to ensure the safe and orderly production of quality products according to job schedules and customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with the reliability/maintenance team to plan and execute maintenance work aimed at improving equipment and process reliability.
  • Play a role in leading and managing the cultural change process, bringing operational expertise and strategic thinking capabilities to both the operational and human capital aspects of the operation.
  • Assist in budget preparation and establish cost measurement standards.
  • Determine training needs and facilitate appropriate training programs for hourly employees in the most effective manner.
  • Contribute to the creation and management of KPIs, and ensure compliance with established center lines.



  • Must have 2-5 years of experience working with Kamyr continuous pulp digesters and/or recausticizing plants.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience within the pulp and paper industry.


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is preferred.
