Automation and Controls Engineer

Location: Minneapolis, MN

Key responsibilities:

  • Undertake level one programming, encompassing PLC, HMI, Vision Systems, Validation, Networking and Virtualization, as well as Systems Architecture.
  • Perform design and engineering functions in compliance with established practices and company standards.
  • Create project scopes of work, preliminary design concepts, and cost estimates for small projects. Assist in gathering field data and preparing project specifications.
  • Coordinate design efforts with other members of the project team.
  • Prepare project correspondence as necessary.
  • Foster positive relationships with assigned project clients.

Requirements:

  • Hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Computer Technology, or a related field from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • Possess a minimum of four years of experience in controls, automation, and electrical troubleshooting and start-up activities.
  • Preference for Engineer In Training (EIT) or Professional Engineering (PE) certification.
  • An industrial background encompassing various sectors is advantageous. Noteworthy industries include food, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing.
  • Availability to travel approximately 15-25% of the time, locally and overnight.
  • Create project scopes of work, preliminary design concepts, and cost estimates for small projects. Assist in gathering field data and preparing project specifications.
  • Develop high-quality industrial software programs in accordance with defined project requirements, without errors.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
  • Lift and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds, and occasionally objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • This role may involve industrial field work, which could expose the employee to hazardous locations, inclement weather, moving mechanical parts, noise, ladders, uneven ground, and stairs.
