The Automotive Mechanical Design Engineer position focuses on providing support to the seismic vehicle engineering team. As an Automotive Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing various mechanical systems, including hydraulics, machinery frames, engine packages, cooling systems, and HVAC. You will have the opportunity to test and validate your designs through computerized modeling or physical prototypes. In this role, you will be involved in the development, design, and testing of all aspects of the seismic vibrator product line. You will work collaboratively with other engineers, identifying design problems and developing alternative solutions. Additionally, you will be responsible for creating detailed specifications, including parts lists and costs, using software tools. As an Automotive Mechanical Design Engineer, you will actively seek new technologies, industry innovations, and build partner relationships in order to contribute to future products. In addition, you will be responsible for sustaining activities for existing products and will create manufacturing specification packages. Your responsibilities will also include completing Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs) and New Part Number Requests (NPRs), as well as performing project management reporting tasks. You will engage with internal clients, stakeholders, and liaisons to discuss design concepts and provide real-time ideas and design concepts using Autodesk Inventor software. To succeed in this role, you should have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. A computer-assisted design software degree or diploma is required. A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience is necessary, and experience in seismic vibrators, diesel engine design, mobile vehicle hydraulics design, or construction and agricultural equipment design is highly preferred. Additionally, experience in product design and support for heavy industrial mobile equipment in industries such as construction, mining, agriculture, forestry, military, or seismic is desirable. Occasional travel to engineering and production facilities may be required. Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor/Vault and Autodesk AutoCAD 2D is essential. A working knowledge of analytical tools such as FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and/or CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), as well as experience with analysis and simulation tools such as Ansys, Nastran, Simcenter Amesim, and PTC Mathcad, is necessary. Strong documentation skills and the ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and symbols are also required. Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is a plus.
