Bio Patent Counseling Associate Attorney

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work exclusively with the life sciences sector, collaborating with renowned biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies on intricate patent development, protection, and enforcement matters for both small and large molecule portfolios.

About You

• You hold a JD from a prestigious law school with an exceptional academic record.
• You are an active member of the California Bar.
• You have at least 4 years of hands-on experience in patent counseling and prosecution within the life sciences industry.
• You possess a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
• You are registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• You have proven experience working with biotechnology companies and investors, focusing on international patent portfolio development, lifecycle management, non-infringement and invalidity analysis, post-grant proceedings, and IP due diligence.
• Prior experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

• You will advise life sciences clients on comprehensive patent portfolio management, including developing, prosecuting, and enforcing patents in domestic and international markets.
• You will take the lead in client engagements, developing strategic IP lifecycle plans that address complex matters such as second-generation drugs, biologics, and international patent strategy.
• You will conduct due diligence assessments and provide high-quality counseling on transactions, infringement, defense, and avoidance strategies.
• You will represent clients in high-stakes patent disputes before the USPTO, including post-grant proceedings and other contentious matters.
• You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to shape patent protection strategies that align with client goals in the discovery-stage biotechnology field, as well as with established pharmaceutical companies.
• You will develop and implement IP strategies that safeguard and enhance the value of client assets, offering guidance on non-infringement, invalidity, and competitive positioning.
