Our client, a prestigious AmLaw 50 international law firm that consistently ranks highly in Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500 US, is in search of a talented Bio Patent Counseling Associate Attorney to join their renowned Intellectual Property group. In this position, you will have a unique opportunity to become part of a team that is solely dedicated to the life sciences sector, collaborating with prominent biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies on intricate patent development, protection, and enforcement matters for both small and large molecule portfolios.
Candidate Profile
- Hold a JD degree from a top-tier law school with an impressive academic track record.
- Be an active member of the D.C. Bar.
- Have 4+ years of substantial experience in patent counseling and prosecution within the life sciences field.
- Possess a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related specialization.
- Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Proven expertise working with biotechnology companies and investors, focusing on developing international patent portfolios, managing lifecycle, conducting non-infringement and invalidity analyses, participating in post-grant proceedings, and conducting IP due diligence.
- Prior experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive guidance on patent portfolio management, including development, prosecution, and enforcement of patents in domestic and international markets to life sciences clients.
- Lead strategic engagements with clients, devising intellectual property lifecycle plans that address complex issues such as second-generation drugs, biologics, and international patent strategies.
- Conduct due diligence assessments and deliver exceptional counsel on transactions, infringement matters, defense strategies, and avoidance strategies.
- Represent clients in high-stakes patent disputes before the USPTO, including involvement in post-grant proceedings and other contentious cases.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to shape patent protection strategies that align with client objectives for biotechnology projects in the discovery stage, as well as for established pharmaceutical companies.
- Develop and execute IP strategies that safeguard and enhance the value of client assets, including advice on non-infringement, invalidity, and competitive positioning.
