Our client, a well-established international law firm ranked among the top in the industry, is in search of a highly qualified Bio Patent Counseling Associate Attorney to join their renowned Intellectual Property group. This outstanding opportunity involves working exclusively with leading biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, providing legal counsel on intricate patent development, protection, and enforcement matters related to both small and large molecule portfolios.

Candidate Profile

  • Hold a JD degree from a prestigious law school with a remarkable academic record.
  • Hold an active Bar Admission in North Carolina.
  • Have more than four years of substantial experience in patent counseling and prosecution within the life sciences sector.
  • Possess a Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related relevant field.
  • Be registered to practice law before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Demonstrate prior experience working with biotechnology companies and investors, focusing on international patent portfolio development, lifecycle management, non-infringement and invalidity analysis, post-grant proceedings, and IP due diligence.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer comprehensive legal advice to life sciences clients regarding patent portfolio management, encompassing the development, prosecution, and enforcement of patents across both domestic and international markets.
  • Take a leading role in managing client engagements related to strategic IP lifecycle planning, addressing complex issues such as second-generation drugs, biologics, and international patent strategy.
  • Conduct due diligence evaluations and provide expert guidance on transactions, infringement, defense, and avoidance strategies.
  • Represent clients in high-stakes patent disputes before the USPTO, including post-grant proceedings and other contentious matters.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to shape patent protection strategies that align with client objectives in the discovery-stage biotechnology field, as well as established pharmaceutical companies.
  • Devise and implement IP strategies that safeguard and enhance the value of client assets, including advice on non-infringement, invalidity, and competitive positioning.
