Our client, an esteemed AmLaw 50 international law firm that consistently ranks highly in Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500 US, is currently in search of a skilled Bio Patent Counseling Associate Attorney to join their renowned Intellectual Property group. This position presents an exceptional opportunity to become part of a dedicated team that focuses solely on the life sciences sector, working closely with esteemed biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies on intricate patent development, protection, and enforcement matters pertaining to both small and large molecule portfolios.

Candidate Profile

  • Hold a Juris Doctor (JD) from a prestigious law school, along with an exceptional academic record.
  • Must possess an active Pennsylvania Bar Admission.
  • Bring in at least 4 years of substantive experience in patent counseling and prosecution within the life sciences industry.
  • Obtained a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Demonstrate proven experience working with biotechnology companies and investors, with a focus on international patent portfolio development, lifecycle management, non-infringement and invalidity analysis, post-grant proceedings, and IP due diligence.
  • Prior experience in the pharmaceutical industry is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive patent portfolio management advice to life sciences clients, including the development, prosecution, and enforcement of patents across domestic and international markets.
  • Lead client engagements involving strategic IP lifecycle planning, addressing complex matters such as second-generation drugs, biologics, and international patent strategy.
  • Conduct due diligence assessments and offer high-quality counseling on transactions, infringement, defense, and avoidance strategies.
  • Represent clients in significant patent disputes before the USPTO, encompassing post-grant proceedings and other contentious matters.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to shape patent protection strategies aligned with client objectives in discovery-stage biotechnology, as well as with established pharmaceutical companies.
  • Create and implement IP strategies that safeguard and enhance the value of client assets, providing advice on non-infringement, invalidity, and competitive positioning.
