Bio Patent Counseling Associate Attorney

Our prestigious client, a leading international law firm ranked highly in Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500 US, is currently seeking a skilled Bio Patent Counseling Associate Attorney to join their esteemed Intellectual Property division. This position presents an outstanding opportunity to become part of a dedicated team specializing exclusively in the life sciences sector. As a member of this team, you will provide comprehensive legal support to renowned biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, offering expertise in patent development, protection, and enforcement for both large and small molecule portfolios.

Desired Qualifications

• Hold a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a top-tier law school with a strong academic background.
• Maintain an active Bar Admission in Pennsylvania.
• Possess a minimum of 4 years of valuable experience in patent counseling and prosecution within the life sciences industry.
• Hold a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline.
• Be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Demonstrate a proven track record of working with biotechnology companies and investors, with emphasis on international patent portfolio development, lifecycle management, non-infringement and invalidity analysis, post-grant proceedings, and IP due diligence.
• Prior experience in the pharmaceutical industry is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert advice to life sciences clients on all aspects of patent portfolio management, including development, prosecution, and enforcement across global markets.
• Lead strategic engagements to plan and manage the entire lifecycle of intellectual property. This includes addressing complex matters such as second-generation drugs, biologics, and international patent strategies.
• Conduct thorough due diligence assessments and deliver high-quality guidance on transactions, infringement defense, and avoidance strategies.
• Represent clients in high-stakes patent disputes before the USPTO, including post-grant proceedings and other contentious matters.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop patent protection strategies aligned with client objectives in the discovery-stage biotechnology sector, as well as established pharmaceutical companies.
• Create and implement comprehensive IP strategies that safeguard and enhance the value of client assets. This includes providing advice on non-infringement, invalidity, and competitive positioning.
