Bio Patent Counseling Associate Attorney

Our esteemed client, a leading international law firm ranked highly in Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500 US, is seeking a talented Bio Patent Counseling Associate Attorney to join their prestigious Intellectual Property group. This role presents a remarkable opportunity to be a part of a team dedicated exclusively to the life sciences sector, working closely with prominent biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies on intricate patent development, protection, and enforcement matters related to both small and large molecule portfolios.

Applicant Profile

• Must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a top-tier law school with an outstanding academic track record.
• Active membership to the Bar of New York is a prerequisite.
• Minimum 4 years of substantial experience in patent counseling and prosecution within the life sciences industry.
• Preferably with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
• Registered as a practitioner before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Proven track record in assisting biotech companies and investors, specializing in international patent portfolio development, lifecycle management, non-infringement and invalidity analysis, post-grant proceedings, and IP due diligence.
• Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is desirable.

Main Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive guidance on patent portfolio management to clients within the life sciences sector, including the development, prosecution, and enforcement of patents across domestic and international markets.
• Take the lead on client engagements involving strategic IP lifecycle planning, addressing complex matters such as second-generation drugs, biologics, and international patent strategy.
• Perform assessments for due diligence and offer top-notch counseling on transactions, infringement, defense, and avoidance strategies.
• Represent clients in high-stakes patent disputes before the USPTO, including post-grant proceedings and other contentious matters.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop patent protection strategies in line with client objectives in the discovery-stage biotechnology field and established pharmaceutical companies, respectively.
• Formulate and implement IP strategies that safeguard and enhance the value of client assets, including advice on non-infringement, invalidity, and competitive positioning.
