Business Development Manager – Legal Services

Our client, an internationally renowned legal services firm, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Business Development Manager (BDM) to join their Marketing and Business Development team. Overview:
This position will serve as the primary Business Development Lead for two key practice areas - Insurance and Business (with a primary focus on construction within the Business practice). A considerable portion of your responsibilities will involve crafting proposals, responding to RFPs, and developing pitches for both new prospects and existing clients. The ideal candidate will possess an excellent attention to detail, be tech-savvy, and be skilled at data analysis and asking pertinent questions to deliver high-quality work that is free of errors.

You will collaborate closely with practice group leaders, attorneys, and administrative departments to ensure all business development projects align with client needs and firm objectives. While the role is internally focused, you will be a valuable resource for the firm's internal teams, primarily working on knowledge management, proposal development, and process enhancement.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Business Development Efforts: Act as the primary BD lead for the Insurance and Labor/Employment Law practice areas, assisting the firm in securing lucrative deals through compelling proposals and RFP responses.
  • Proposal and Pitch Development: Oversee the end-to-end process of creating major proposals and pitches, ensuring timely submissions that are tailored to address client requirements.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Work closely with practice leaders, attorneys, and administrative teams to gather insights and data that will inform business development strategies.
  • Data and Market Analysis: Conduct research on companies, markets, and industries to craft strategic pitches and maintain the firm's competitiveness.
  • Efficiency and Process Improvement: Continuously seek opportunities to enhance proposal processes, striving for excellence in both efficiency and quality of output.

Success Factors:

  • Producing high-quality proposals and RFPs that are free of errors.
  • Meeting or exceeding deadlines for all business development initiatives.
  • Effectively collaborating with internal stakeholders, including lawyers and practice group leaders.
  • Creating efficiencies by improving existing processes and workflows.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5-7 years of business development experience with a focus on proposal and pitch development. Experience in legal services or large law firms is highly desirable.
  • A consistent work history demonstrating reliability and commitment.
  • Strong writing and communication skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Tech-savvy with the ability to analyze data and leverage CRM, experience management, and new technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Analytics, or a related field. An MBA, J.D., or Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Ability to work in Tampa, New Orleans, or Houston, with occasional travel (up to 20%) depending on location.
