Summary of the role:

  • The role of the Clinical Dietitian II is to provide specialized nutrition care to pediatric patients in medical surgery and oncology departments. The Clinical Dietitian II will conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments, diagnose nutrition-related issues, implement appropriate targeted nutrition interventions, and monitor and evaluate outcomes using the Nutrition Care Process. The Clinical Dietitian II may have the authority to write medical nutrition orders and participate in electronic medical record (EMR) order entry for oral nutrition supplements, oral diets, enteral nutrition (tube feeding), and parenteral nutrition (intravenous feeding) as per the Clinical Registered Dietitian Medical Nutrition Therapy Order Management Protocol. Additionally, the Clinical Dietitian II will be responsible for providing nutrition education to patients, parents, and participating in ongoing educational programs for hospital staff, community outreach, parent groups, and professional organizations. Actively contributes to performance improvement and outcome research endeavors.
  • The Clinical Dietitian II will possess extensive clinical nutrition knowledge in complex areas of pediatric clinical nutrition, oncology, and nutrition support. Actively participates in performance improvement and outcome research projects. Takes ownership of personal development and fosters a culture of learning. Consults and collaborates with other healthcare professionals within the hospital and practice plan. Regarded as the expert resource for any clinical nutrition concerns. Assists in the education of clinical nutrition interns, medical students, residents, fellows, nurses, and other clinicians. Reports directly to the Director of Clinical Nutrition.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to collaborate with diverse members of multidisciplinary teams and colleagues throughout the organization. Strong understanding and application of principles of medical nutrition therapy specific to pediatric oncology. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, medical staff, and physicians. Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively manage time. Proficiency in counseling and educating others. In-depth knowledge of the scientific rationale and application of oral nutrition supplements, pediatric formulas, enteral nutrition support, intravenous feedings, and feeding modules (carbohydrate, protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals). General proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, and EMR systems.

Training & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Registered Dietitian (RD) credentials from the Committee on Dietetic Registration (CDR), and Licensure in the state of Pennsylvania (LDN).

Required Licenses & Certifications:

  • Must be credentialed as a Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN). Pennsylvania State Licensure (LDN) must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Advanced degree or specialty certification required (CSP, CNSC, CDE, CLC, CSO, IBCLC) or to be obtained within 12 months of hire, subject to approval by the Director, Clinical Nutrition. Ongoing maintenance of credentials, professional development portfolio, and licensure is required.


  • Minimum two years of relevant experience as a Clinical Registered Dietitian, preferably with pediatric clinical experience.
