Clinical Pediatric Dietitian
Job Summary:
The Clinical Pediatric Dietitian is responsible for providing nutritional care to patients in GI outpatient clinics, including satellites, and may also provide coverage for inpatients on the GI service. This role specifically supports GI patients within the Healthy Teens Healthy Kids Weight Management & Bariatric Program.
Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive nutrition assessments, diagnosing nutrition-related issues, developing targeted nutrition interventions, and monitoring and evaluating outcomes using the Nutrition Care Process. The Clinical Pediatric Dietitian may have authorization to write medical nutrition orders and participate in the electronic medical record system for managing oral nutrition supplements, dietary plans, tube feedings, and intravenous feedings, according to the Clinical Registered Dietitian Medical Nutrition Therapy Order Management Protocol. Additionally, the Clinical Pediatric Dietitian will provide nutrition education to patients and parents and may contribute to ongoing education programs for hospital staff, community groups, parent groups, and professional organizations. This role will also participate in performance improvement initiatives and outcome research activities.
The Clinical Pediatric Dietitian will possess expertise in complex areas of pediatric nutrition, gastroenterology, obesity, and nutrition support. They will collaborate with other healthcare professionals within the hospital and practice plan, and provide consultation and guidance on clinical nutrition concerns. Additionally, they will contribute to the education of clinical nutrition interns, medical students, residents, fellows, nurses, and other clinicians. The Clinical Pediatric Dietitian reports directly to the Director of Clinical Nutrition.
Skills & Abilities:
The ideal candidate should be able to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and other employees, demonstrate strong knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy principles in pediatric gastroenterology and obesity, communicate effectively with patients, families, and medical staff, manage their time effectively, provide counseling and education, and have a good understanding of nutrition supplements, formulas, enteral nutrition support, intravenous feedings, and feeding modules. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic medical record systems is also desired.
Training & Education:
Requirements for this position include a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Registered Dietitian (RD) credentials from the Committee on Dietetic Registration (CDR), and licensure in the state of Pennsylvania (LDN).
Experience:
Applicants must have a minimum of two years of experience as a Clinical Registered Dietitian, with preference given to those with pediatric clinical experience.
