Position Description

Veterinary Clinician LAM

We are currently hiring for a full-time Clinical Veterinarian specializing in Lab Animal Medicine. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the well-being and regulatory compliance of the animals under our care. To qualify, you must have a DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree, as well as at least 1-3 years of relevant experience in a laboratory animal setting.

Our facility spans over 100,000 square feet on a 50+ acre campus. We provide non-clinical in vivo services for GLP and conduct regulatory enabling studies. Our work involves a diverse range of lab animal species.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. General Duties:
  • Regularly review and ensure the accuracy of all applicable SOPs. Collaborate in writing, reviewing, and revising SOPs as necessary
  • Complete assigned training requirements and maintain appropriate documentation of completed training
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures to maintain compliance
  • Ensure compliance with GLPs, USDA, AAALAC, OLAW, and other relevant regulations
  1. Perform clinical assessments and provide veterinary care for all animals in need. Coordinate appropriate diagnostic procedures, treatment plans, and maintain accurate documentation
  2. Monitor and address the health and well-being of animals involved in studies and colonies
    • Conduct health checks on incoming animals and update individual health records accordingly
    • Perform pre-screening activities, including physical and ocular examinations, for study animals
    • Collect and review monthly bodyweight data and body condition scores, and monitor overall animal status
    • Conduct or review semi-annual physical exams and blood work, as well as administer vaccinations in accordance with the USDA Program of Veterinary Care
  3. Manage inventory of veterinary supplies required for animal health and well-being
  4. Collaborate with Study Directors to ensure animal welfare requirements are met in study protocols and conduct
  5. Review and edit study and ACUC protocols for compliance with animal welfare standards
  6. Develop and evaluate procedures and technologies as needed
  7. Participate in study conduct to ensure compliance with protocols and SOPs
  8. Perform surgical procedures as specified in protocols or as necessary for injured animals
  9. Develop new surgical techniques and animal models as required
