Manufacturing Compliance Engineer

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Salary: $60,000–$80,000 + Bonus

Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Compliance Engineer to ensure that our products meet required safety and regulatory standards. This hands-on role supports product development and launch activities by managing regulatory documentation, maintaining safety certifications, and educating internal teams and customers on compliance requirements. The Compliance Engineer collaborates closely with engineering teams, technicians, and third-party certification bodies to perform product validation, build prototypes, conduct testing, and maintain compliance-related equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to prevent compliance issues by reviewing materials, product designs, and regulatory standards.

  • Analyze and interpret relevant safety and environmental standards, including UL, NEC, NFPA, FCC, REACH, and RoHS.

  • Review Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for alignment with NRTL certifications and environmental directives.

  • Develop compliance strategies by selecting appropriate safety standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Evaluate and qualify new vendors, components, and parts for compliance.

  • Coordinate compliance activities by planning schedules, estimating costs, and organizing necessary resources, including labs and testing equipment.

  • Supervise subcontractors and perform forensic analysis and troubleshooting on failed tests.

  • Address and resolve non-compliance issues through recommended design or process changes and initiate Engineering Change Orders.

  • Maintain documentation by preparing applications, test reports, investigative records, and Declarations of Conformity.

  • Manage compliance databases and ensure certification markings and marketing materials reflect current approvals.

  • Monitor trends in compliance engineering by engaging in continuous education and participating in professional groups.

  • Serve as the liaison and administrative gatekeeper for regulatory compliance partners, including UL.

  • Ensure company practices align with current regulatory codes and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Materials Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 2–5 years of relevant compliance engineering experience.

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory codes (UL, NEC, NFPA, FCC) and NRTL requirements.

  • Familiarity with environmental regulations such as REACH and RoHS.

  • Proficiency in writing test protocols, standard procedures, and technical reports.

  • Experience with 3D modeling software and interpreting mechanical/electrical schematics.

  • Background in both mechanical and electrical system design.

  • Knowledge of electrical contacts, sliding contacts, and basic electrical principles is a plus.

  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
