Construction Accounting Manager
Job Summary
As the Construction Financial Manager, you will report to the Controller and play a crucial role in managing the day-to-day accounting operations. Your main responsibilities will include ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards, providing strategic financial guidance, and supporting the company's growth objectives. In addition, you will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and collaborate with other departments to maintain financial integrity and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, including intercompany balances.
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliations, including monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Manage the general accounting operations, such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and tax compliance.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements with strict adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare the company for future audits, coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors, and prepare necessary documentation.
- Collaborate closely with the Controller to develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and cash planning/treasury activities to support strategic planning and decision-making.
- Monitor cash flow, accounts, and other financial transactions.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings, including sales tax filing and compliance.
- Work with executive management to develop financial strategies and support key business initiatives.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Have at least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including 1+ years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Prior public accounting experience is a plus.
- Possess a strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Proficient in accounting ERP software and Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrate excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Show strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Exhibit exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred
- Hold a CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA certification.
- Have experience managing a team, including AR and AP staff.
- Be technologically adept and systems savvy, with experience in SAP preferred.
- Possess inventory accounting and WIP experience.
