Control Systems Engineer
Job Overview
We are currently seeking a skilled control systems engineer for our Alpharetta, GA location. This role involves various responsibilities including programming, system configuration, system documentation, factory acceptance testing, and field start-up and commissioning activities.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Engineering with at least 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
· Extensive platform experience and strong proficiency in programming, including:
a. PLCs (preferably Allen-Bradley)
b. HMIs (preferably Inductive Automation Ignition, AVEVA/Wonderware System Platform, Rockwell FactoryTalk View, GE iFIX)
c. DCS (DeltaV)
d. Other (Omni Flow Computer, ROC, Presets)
· Strong proficiency in Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and OPC communications protocols
· Good understanding of P&ID’s, control panel wiring drawings, and field wiring diagrams
· Desired:
a. Knowledgeable of Electrical Protection Relays (Multilin, SEL)
b. Knowledgeable of Historian systems
c. Knowledgeable of external notification systems (text, email, mobile app, etc.)
d. Familiarity with DeviceNet and/or Profibus communications protocols
Responsibilities
· Develop and implement DCS/PLC/HMI programming
· Assist in the creation of logic diagrams, cause & effect matrices, and functional narratives
· Contribute to the design and review of control panel design packages, field wiring diagrams, conduit & cable schedules, and associated E&I package deliverables
· Attend field verification and user requirements gathering walkdowns
· Perform factory acceptance testing
· Conduct field start-up and commissioning, including troubleshooting support when required
· Assist in client training and provide necessary support
· Offer after-hours support for internal/external clients as needed
· Collaborate with Senior Engineering Lead(s) and Project Manager(s) to ensure deliverable quality and adhere to budget constraints
· Travel approximately 25% of the time, including air travel
Physical Requirements
· Sit in office space for a standard workday (8-10 hours, with breaks)
· Travel by car to remote locations for up to 5 hours
· Travel by plane to locations with flight times up to 5 hours
· Kneel/bend to investigate and document control panels and wiring
· Stand/walk around pipeline, terminal, and plant locations for up to 10-12 hrs per day, including climbing stairs/ladders and crossing dike walls for inspections and documentation purposes
· Outdoor work in diverse climates while wearing appropriate PPE
