Instrumentation & Control Project Engineer

Location: Concord, CA (Bay Area)
Salary Range: $90,000 – $150,000 annually

Position Summary
We are currently hiring an Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Project Engineer for our Concord, CA office. This role will be instrumental in the design, implementation, and commissioning of industrial control systems, supporting projects from concept through startup.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, configuration, and implementation of control systems to improve process efficiency and reliability.

  • Conduct field assessments and scope development for instrumentation and control systems.

  • Create and review technical documentation, including logic diagrams, functional narratives, and cause-and-effect matrices.

  • Assist in the design of control panels, wiring diagrams, and instrumentation layouts, including conduit and cable schedules.

  • Participate in user requirements gathering and conduct system verification walkdowns.

  • Develop PLC and DCS programming and HMI graphics aligned with project and client standards.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project managers, engineers, and operators to deliver fully integrated solutions.

  • Manage project deliverables including schedules, status updates, and client communications.

  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to ensure system readiness before deployment.

  • Oversee field startup and commissioning, including system troubleshooting and optimization.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or related field).

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience as a Control System Engineer, with emphasis on Honeywell DCS and/or Allen Bradley PLC platforms.

  • Proficient in integrating instrumentation systems with PLCs, DCSs, sensors, and communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC, Ethernet/IP).

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve complex control system issues.

  • Clear, professional communication skills—both written and verbal.

  • Experience managing multiple projects or priorities in a dynamic environment.

  • Preferred experience with Honeywell Experion PKS, TDC 3000, Triconex, or Honeywell Safety Manager.

  • Familiarity with programming languages such as ladder logic, Function Block Diagram (FBD), and Structured Text (ST) is highly desirable.


Physical Requirements

  • Occasional local travel to refineries and industrial sites.

  • Ability to walk and stand in operational environments while wearing required PPE.
