Controls Systems Engineer

Location: Poulsbo, WA

We are an industry-leading global company specializing in the development of embedded control systems technology for large cruising & racing yachts. Our expertise lies in designing, supplying, commissioning, troubleshooting, optimizing, and supporting electro-hydraulic systems for superyachts around the world.

Currently, we are seeking a talented Automation Engineer to join our team and contribute to the programming of embedded control systems for superyachts.

Applicants must be US Citizens as our work involves collaboration with the Department of Defense, making this status a mandatory requirement.

Key Responsibilities

· Create, develop, and test software automation solutions using the IEC 61131-3 standard

· Establish and maintain a control systems framework

· Program PLCs and graphical user interfaces with CoDeSys V3.5 for electrohydraulic control systems

· Design user-friendly HMI (GUI) applications

· Develop well-documented, reusable code libraries for use by engineers

· Solve bugs and enhance system functionality

· Implement source control mechanisms for software changes

· Build internal tools and user interfaces to facilitate team efficiency and productivity

· Develop software demos for customer review on a regular basis

· Perform hardware testing of systems and processes

· Ensure all technical documentation and software versions are up-to-date and properly cataloged

· Introduce new process procedures and modifications to enhance operational efficiency

· Provide technical support to customers or colleagues via phone, email, zoom, or on-site visits (domestic and international)

· Create functional specifications and I/O lists for projects

Travel expectation is approximately 15% per year.

Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, software engineering, or computer science

· The most crucial requirement for this position is: Experience in an Object-Oriented

programming environment, with proficiency in Python, C++, Java, Visual Studio .NET, Structured Text

(ST), Instruction List (IL), and Function Block Diagram (FBD)

· Knowledge of the software development cycle

· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment and handle multiple tasks

· Strong grasp of object-oriented software design and implementation principles

· Preferred proficiency in a higher-level programming language such as C++, Java, or .NET

· Proficiency in networking protocols like Ethernet TCP/IP

· Excellent organizational skills

· Ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines

· Strong written and verbal communication abilities

· Willingness and ability to obtain a valid US Passport for work-related travel

· Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as needed

· Positive attitude and a collaborative approach

Preferred skills

· Good understanding of basic machine controls (motors, hydraulics, valves, etc.)

· Fundamental skills in electronic troubleshooting

· Experience in designing CANopen, NMEA2000, or J1939 network systems
