Controls Systems Engineer

Location: Poulsbo, WA

We are a leading global provider of embedded control systems technology for large cruising & racing yachts. Our company specializes in designing, supplying, commissioning, troubleshooting, optimizing, and supporting electro-hydraulic systems for the superyacht industry around the world.

Currently, we are seeking an Automation Engineer to program embedded control systems for superyachts.

To be considered for this position, US Citizenship is a requirement due to our collaboration with the Department of Defense.

Responsibilities:

· Utilize the IEC 61131-3 standard to design, implement, document, and test software automation solutions

· Develop and maintain a control system framework

· Program CoDeSys V3.5 PLCs and graphical user interfaces for electrohydraulic control systems

· Design intuitive and user-friendly HMI (GUI) applications

· Create well-documented and reusable code libraries for use by other engineers

· Resolve software bugs and enhance functionality

· Implement source control for software changes

· Build internal tools and user interfaces to improve team efficiency

· Develop software demos for customer review

· Conduct hardware testing of systems and processes

· Maintain up-to-date technical documentation and software catalog

· Identify and implement process improvements for more efficient operations

· Provide technical support to customers or staff via phone, email, zoom, or on-site visits (both domestic and international)

· Develop functional specifications and I/O lists for projects

Approximately 15% of travel is expected per year.

Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, software engineering, or computer science

· The most important qualification for this role is experience in an object-oriented programming environment.

· Proficiency in Python, C++, Java, Visual Studio .NET, Structured Text (ST), Instruction List (IL), and Function Block Diagram (FBD)

· Familiarity with the software development cycle

· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment and handle multiple tasks

· Strong understanding of object-oriented software design and implementation

· Knowledge of higher-level programming languages such as C++, Java, or .NET is highly desirable

· Proficient in networking protocols like Ethernet TCP/IP

· Excellent organizational skills

· Ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Must be able to obtain a valid US Passport for work travel

· Willingness to work overtime and weekends when necessary

· Positive attitude and the ability to work effectively with others

Preferred skills:

· Solid understanding of basic machine controls (motors, hydraulics, valves, etc.)

· Basic troubleshooting skills for electronic components

· Experience in designing CANopen, NMEA2000, or J1939 network systems
