Oversees the provision of nursing services and ensures patient safety within the surgical services department and across all stages of patient care. Leads and manages the delivery of high-quality services that align with nursing standards, service priorities, and performance measures. Develops strategies that support the organization's goals and objectives, while ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides 24/7 management and supervision of nursing services in accordance with established cost, quality, clinical, and utilization standards.
- Establishes and maintains service standards that meet the needs and expectations of patients and internal stakeholders in a competitive healthcare market. Holds staff accountable for delivering exceptional care while complying with relevant regulations.
- Collaborates with nursing leadership to develop strategic plans that promote seamless, integrated services across the continuum of care. Implements systems and processes to evaluate and improve patient care, clinical practices, and operational efficiency.
- Manages department budgets and optimizes resource allocation.
- Monitors financial performance, identifies cost reduction opportunities, and implements quality improvement initiatives.
- Determines staffing needs, implements recruitment and training processes, and ensures ongoing staff development. Establishes a competent and qualified workforce.
- Develops and enforces departmental policies and procedures that align with the organization's goals and objectives. Sets standards of care, directs financial management, and leads quality improvement efforts.
- Resolves human resource and risk management issues.
- Promotes a culture of safety and ensures that patient, employee, and department safety standards are consistently adhered to and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Participates in leadership committees and forums at regional and national levels.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant clinical nursing experience, with at least three (3) years in a management, supervisory, or leadership role.
Education
- Academic degree in nursing (Bachelor's or Master's degree).
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and National Health/Nursing Administration Certification or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required for PICU and NICU Departments in facilities seeking or holding CCS certification.
License, Certification, Registration
- Registered Nurse License (California)
- Basic Life Support
Additional Requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, TJC, and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and management skills.
- Consistently exemplifies the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide exceptional and culturally sensitive service to colleagues, members, customers, contracted providers, and vendors.
- Ability to thrive in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with electronic medical record systems.
- Master's degree in a related field.
- National Certification in a specialty area.
