Cybersecurity Legal Counsel - New York, NY

Their team provides comprehensive legal counsel on matters related to privacy, cybersecurity, and AI, including regulatory compliance, product development, incident response, litigation, and regulatory defense for some of the world's most prominent companies.

Profile of an Ideal Candidate:

• Hold a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a highly regarded law school with an impressive academic track record.
• Active membership in the New York Bar Association.
• 4–7 years of substantial experience in the field of cybersecurity, privacy, and AI law.
• Hands-on experience advising clients on state and federal privacy laws and conducting due diligence for M&A, financings, and commercial transactions.
• Experience handling class action lawsuits and/or providing regulatory defense.
• Familiarity with data-driven technologies, including AI/ML and biometrics, as well as global regulatory frameworks.
• Knowledge of state privacy laws, HIPAA, SCA, PIPA, CIPA, ECPA, Patriot/Cloud Act, GDPR, and GLBA is considered a plus.
• Prior experience in defending enforcement actions brought by state attorneys general, FTC, OCR/HHS, SEC Cybersecurity Unit, and EU regulators will be highly valued.
• Background knowledge in incident response.
• Strong preference for candidates with experience in large law firms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Offer legal advice to clients on a broad spectrum of privacy, cybersecurity, and AI-related issues, including regulatory compliance, risk assessment, and governance programs.
• Provide strategic guidance on data protection laws, such as GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, and other global regulatory frameworks.
• Assist in due diligence activities for mergers, acquisitions, and financings, evaluating privacy and cybersecurity risks.
• Represent clients during regulatory investigations and enforcement actions involving authorities such as the FTC, SEC, DOJ, and global regulatory bodies.
• Manage incident response efforts, including investigations into data breaches, regulatory notifications, ransomware negotiations, and strategies for mitigating cyberattacks.
• Handle class action litigation and defend clients in high-stakes cybersecurity and AI-related lawsuits.

The position offers competitive compensation, starting at $310,000+, based on class year and experience.
