Nursing Dean
The Nursing Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative leader of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, guiding its vision, ensuring academic excellence, and maintaining accreditation and regulatory compliance. This role requires a dynamic leader who can collaborate across all levels—faculty, students, staff, and external partners—to promote innovation in nursing education and prepare students for licensure and success as registered nurses.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Leadership and Curriculum Oversight

Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the BSN curriculum, ensuring alignment with CCNE, ACEN, and state board of nursing standards.

Stay current with trends in healthcare and nursing education, integrating evidence-based practices, patient care technology, health informatics, and cultural competence into the curriculum.

Ensure the program prepares graduates for the NCLEX-RN and meets employer expectations.
Faculty Leadership and Development

Recruit, hire, and retain qualified nursing faculty who are aligned with the mission and academic goals of the program.

Support faculty through mentorship, continuing education, and professional development initiatives.

Foster a positive, inclusive academic environment through regular performance evaluations and collaborative leadership.
Program Administration and Accreditation

Oversee budget management, resource allocation, and operational planning for the nursing department.

Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations, as well as accreditation standards.

Lead accreditation efforts, including preparation of reports and coordination of site visits.
Student Success and Support

Provide strategic direction for student advising, clinical placements, and academic support to promote retention, success, and graduation.

Maintain high standards for student engagement, satisfaction, and career readiness.

Address student concerns and create policies that promote a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Strategic Planning and Community Partnerships

Develop and implement long-term goals and initiatives to enhance program visibility, enrollment, and reputation.

Build and maintain strong relationships with hospitals, clinics, and healthcare systems to support student training and workforce development.

Represent the nursing program in university leadership meetings and at public or professional events.
Research, Innovation, and Scholarship

Promote a culture of research and scholarly activity among faculty and students.

Support faculty in publishing, presenting, and securing research funding.

Facilitate the integration of research into classroom instruction and clinical practice.
Events and Advancement

Oversee key program ceremonies such as nursing pinning events, graduation celebrations, and recognition functions.

Lead engagement with alumni and donors to support scholarships, program funding, and community initiatives.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
-
MSN required; Doctorate in Nursing or a related field (PhD, DNP, EdD) strongly preferred and required in some states.
Licensure
-
Must hold a current, unencumbered RN license.
Experience
-
At least 5 years of leadership or management experience in nursing education or healthcare administration.

3–5 years of baccalaureate-level teaching experience.

Proven success in curriculum development, strategic planning, and academic program management.
