The Clinical Education Director is responsible for the effective implementation of the hospital's educational strategy. They serve as a leader, advisor, and expert in education regulations and standards. The Director of Clinical Education plans, implements, evaluates, and updates education programs for the hospital's Market across various clinical disciplines. They supervise clinical educators, oversee department operations, and coordinate educational activities. Collaboration with team members, department directors, medical staff, and organizational leaders is a crucial aspect of this role.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate and oversee activities at the market, facility, and departmental level in compliance with federal, state, and local standards, as well as corporate and facility policies.
- Participate actively in interprofessional collaboration to enhance patient and family satisfaction, nursing quality of care, teamwork, and communication.
- Ensure that policies and procedures reflect current practices and validate their evidence-based nature.
- Conduct interviews, provide hiring recommendations, manage and develop staff members.
- Perform employee evaluations and maintain/update department competencies.
- Promote professional development and encourage nursing staff to pursue certification and professional growth opportunities.
- Collaborate with the hospital's Continuous Improvement (CI) team to execute projects and implement initiatives.
- Review needs assessment and assist in creating a strategic plan for education and CI.
- Manage overall program activities, including resource allocation, to align education with the organization's mission, vision, and goals.
- Oversee the coordination of ongoing staff development programs, performance improvement initiatives, and special projects related to staff education and professional development.
- Work with the National Director and Market Directors to identify and develop high-risk, low-volume clinical competencies that require review and updates.
- Coordinate the implementation and maintenance of a systematic process for nursing competency review and creation.
- Evaluate programs, educational offerings, and professional development activities to identify areas for improvement.
- Identify learning needs through regular and ad hoc assessments and develop educational programs accordingly, providing performance metrics to the Department Director.
- Create education action plans based on survey findings.
- Participate actively in projects of the Group Clinical Education Advisory Board to enhance nursing excellence and professional development.
- Maintain knowledge of organizational, regulatory, and hospital educational requirements initiatives and communicate relevant information effectively.
- Ensure compliance with nursing education standards and oversee .edu assignments and other mandatory training.
Other functions
- Assume accountability for special projects as assigned.
- Teach and transfer knowledge/information to team members.
- Manage the CEU application process.
- Incorporate LEAN methodology into daily practice.
- Manage affiliation agreements, clinical instructors, and students.
- Create and maintain collaborative relationships with affiliated schools.
- Participate in developing, planning, and presenting formal continuing education offerings.
Education
- MSN degree from an accredited school of nursing
Experience
- 5 years of nursing experience, including 3 years in a clinical leadership role
- Preferred: Teaching and staff development experience
Certifications
- Current State Licenses
- Current American Heart Association BLS Certification (must be maintained at all times)
- Current American Heart Association ACLS Certification (must be maintained at all times)
Qualifications
Education:
Required: MSN degree from an accredited school of nursing
Experience:
Required: 5 years of nursing experience, including 3 years in a clinical leadership role
Preferred: Teaching and staff development experience
Certifications:
Required: Current state licenses, AHA BLS certification
