Summary:
The Head of Long Term Care Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the highest quality of care in our facility nursing program.

Qualifications:
Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school, preferably with a BSN.

Licenses/Certification:

  • Valid RN license in the state of employment.
  • Valid CPR certification.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years experience as a Head of Long Term Care Nursing, Assistant Head of Nursing, or similar supervisory nursing role.

Job Functions:

  • Develop and guide the professional development of the nursing staff.
  • Conduct daily rounds on the unit to ensure adherence to clinical protocols and nursing policies and procedures.
  • Create and manage systems to assess clinical competencies and address training needs.
  • Handle general management tasks such as interviewing, hiring, disciplining, and evaluating employees.
  • Plan and facilitate meetings and committees to address resident care matters.
  • Review time sheets for accuracy prior to payroll processing.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs that promote the recruitment, retention, development, and continuing education of nursing staff.
  • Take part in the Employee Recognition Program.
  • Initiate studies to assess the effectiveness of nursing services in relation to objectives and costs.
  • Develop and manage staffing scheduler system and nurse on-call system, ensuring sufficient nursing staff based on facility and census requirements.
  • Create and manage the department budget, monitor expenses, and adhere to the budgetary limits.
  • Investigate and resolve concerns raised by residents, family members, or employees.
  • Proactively address survey and care standard issues.
  • Collect data and compile reports within specified deadlines.
  • Ensure timely adherence to pharmacy, dietary, and physician consults.
  • Assume full responsibilities for the center in the absence of the Administrator.
  • Perform assigned tasks as required.

  • Effective communication abilities with residents, family members, and individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Swift decision-making and response in emergency situations.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Familiarity with training techniques for clinical staff.
