Candidate should possess experience in electrical design for packaging equipment.
Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D design, PLCs, HMIs, and Rockwell Automation is required.

The Electrical Controls/Design Engineer is responsible for designing electrical controls for both standard and custom packaging machines. This includes programming, integration, and communication for various PC’s, PLC’s, HMI’s, servos, VFD’s, and related components. As a member of the Packaging, Machinery and Automation (PM&A) Team located in Orlando, FL, you will collaborate on the development of equipment using state-of-the-art technologies and the best controls design practices.

Day-to-day duties include:

  • Designing standard machinery controls to address customer's packaging requirements.

  • Ensuring accuracy of electrical and pneumatic calculations for designing automation mechanisms and equipment.

  • Creating and maintaining structured electrical bills of materials for specific equipment and submitting them to purchasing and production departments.

  • Researching and selecting appropriately sized electrical components for purchase.

  • Developing electrical layout drawings, control cabinet drawings, and pneumatic layout drawings using AutoCAD 2D for production and customer reference.

  • Assisting in cost reduction and quality improvement efforts for electrical designs.

  • Understanding customer's electrical specifications and operational needs for packaging.

  • Collaborating with technical writers to create machine documentation.

  • Programming standard equipment upgrades and custom packaging machinery.

  • Participating in the start-up and commissioning of machinery in both plant and customer facilities.

Background and Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited University or equivalent combination of education and technical/professional experience.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical controls and programming (required).

  • Preferred experience in Electrical design of industrial automated machinery using AutoCAD Electrical.

  • In-depth knowledge of:

    • High voltage three-phase and single-phase (600V and lower) schematics.
    • Control system design using Allen-Bradley components (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix, Micro 850 processors; PanelView HMIs, PowerFlex 525 VFDs, Kinetix 5300, 5500 Servo Drives, Remote I/O).
    • I/O Layout diagrams.
    • Electrical panel layout diagrams.
    • Machine layout diagrams.
    • Pneumatic diagrams.
    • Complete electrical Bill of materials.
  • Preferred experience in structured programming and configuring industrial automated machinery using Rockwell Automation products (Studio 5000, RS Logix 5000, RS Logix 500, Connected Components Workbench, FactoryTalk).

  • Knowledge of NEC and NFPA 79 standards.
