Electrical Systems Engineer

Summary of the Position: Responsible for the design, development, and testing of circuits and systems used in testing equipment control. Generate electrical and controls engineering drawings and documents. Specify electrical controls equipment and panel components, as well as heating elements and circuits. Review proposed changes to existing designs and ensure compliance with engineering standards, accepted practices, and safety standards. Review specifications to support proposal efforts and collaborate with suppliers for the procurement of engineered components. Develop PLC and HMI projects and control logic diagrams. Familiarity with IEEE, UL, NEC, CSA, and EU/CE standards is required. This position requires a strong background in engineering training and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities / General Competencies:

  • Engage in electrical engineering, machine/industrial automation, and product and prototype testing
  • Create, maintain, and execute multiple projects along with associated engineering documentation
  • Design, operate, and test systems and applications utilizing low to medium voltage, DC circuits, and various analog distribution systems
  • Size and specify electrical and control components such as transformers, circuit breakers, motor starters, and conductors
  • Develop, review, and verify electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control descriptions, I/O lists, bills of materials, and PLC/HMI code for the control of different electro-mechanical systems
  • Ensure compliance with industry, engineering, and customer standards and specifications
  • Apply working knowledge and understanding of electric codes and standards
  • Proficient in designing and programming PLC, HMI, and Ethernet interfacing; Create control logic diagrams
  • Bring experience with PLCs, HMIs, temperature controllers, and control panel design; Knowledge of LabView, C++, and communication networks is an advantage
  • Possess exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills; capable of troubleshooting, problem identification, and resolution of programs and systems
  • Provide support to Field Service Technicians during equipment installation, startup, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance
  • Support production efforts by resolving on-floor design and assembly issues as required
  • Communicate with sales team and provide customer support as necessary

Education, Certificates, Licenses, and Experience:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Possess an Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology and preferably have 2-5 years of relevant experience*

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in Autodesk products: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Inventor Pro
  • Comfortable working with MS Office Suite
  • Able to learn and adapt to other software as needed
