Electrical Engineer – Power (Jr – Mid)
Junior-Mid Level Power Engineer – Electrical Power Systems
General Description
We are a well-known engineering firm specializing in electrical power and control systems. We are currently looking for a qualified Electrical Power Engineer with expertise in electrical power systems, located in Alpharetta, GA. This role will assist in expanding our electrical power offerings.
Key Experience & Skills
· Experience of 4-8 years in programming and configuring SEL RTACs, including the development of HMI interfaces, logic, and data concentrator functionality.
· Familiarity with integrating electrical SCADA systems using OSI AspenTech or similar platforms for real-time monitoring and control.
· Experience in generating and implementing electrical power relay settings, preferably with GE Multilin and SEL.
· In-depth knowledge of communication protocols such as DNP3, MMS, and GOOSE, as well as familiarity with IEC 61850 family of standards.
· Experience in developing comprehensive electrical construction packages including single line diagrams, three line diagrams, schematics/elementary diagrams, interconnection diagrams, and logic diagrams.
· Familiarity with the requirements outlined in National Electrical Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and IEEE 3000 Series (formerly known as color books), preferred.
· Proficiency in power system modeling tools such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower, preferred.
· Strong proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education
· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
· Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
Responsibilities
· Develop settings files for SEL protection relays and similar devices.
· Create settings files for SEL RTACs, including data concentration, HMI, and logic development.
· Integrate electrical SCADA information using OSI AspenTech or similar platforms.
· Perform onsite programming, field testing, and commissioning of electrical protection, control, and SCADA systems.
· Develop comprehensive electrical construction packages for the installation of protection, control, and SCADA systems.
· Maintain detailed documentation of relay settings, RTAC configurations, and system integration processes.
· Provide after-hours support for internal and external clients as needed.
· Collaborate with Project Manager(s) to ensure quality of commercial deliverables, budget maintenance, and ongoing communication on technical progress, issues, and change orders.
· Assist Project Manager(s) in developing cost estimates and proposals for new project opportunities, providing technical expertise and guidance on cost allocation.
· Travel approximately 40% of the time, including air travel.
