Engineering – Team Leader (Lighting)
Location: Pittsburgh, PA (Ideal) | Remote (for the right candidate)
Compensation: $100,000 – $140,000 + Bonus
Employment Type: Full-time
Supervises: Team of 3–4 Engineers

Position Overview:
An outstanding opportunity is available for a hands-on Engineering Team Leader to oversee North American engineering efforts within a global lighting solutions environment. This role is critical for driving innovation, ensuring customer satisfaction, and developing a high-performing engineering team.

The Team Leader will act as a "player-coach," balancing technical leadership with active involvement in projects. Ideal candidates are passionate about engineering excellence, customer service, and team development — and are ready to contribute at a senior leadership level.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 3–4 engineers, setting a standard for exceptional customer service.

  • Serve as a technical expert for internal and external customers on installation support, commissioning, product modifications, and custom projects.

  • Produce lighting layouts, design documents, and application drawings specific to the lighting industry.

  • Drive innovation and quality in all product modifications and custom lighting applications.

  • Represent North American needs to the global R&D team, ensuring compliance and alignment with local standards and global initiatives.

  • Facilitate the launch of new products and services into the North American marketplace on time and within budget.

  • Build strong relationships with sales partners and ensure teams are knowledgeable about products and brand representation.

  • Manage the engineering budget effectively and ensure specification sheets meet North American market expectations.

  • Support fiscal goals through sales and margin growth, expense management, and exceeding EBIT targets.

  • Collaborate across teams to promote products internally and externally to agent and distributor networks.

  • Lead by example and contribute to the overall management and strategic direction of the business.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.

  • Significant prior experience in a senior engineering role, ideally within the lighting industry.

  • Strong technical product knowledge, especially with lighting, electrical systems, and controls.

  • Hands-on leadership style with the ability to inspire and harness individual talents.

  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and strategic thinking skills.

  • Proficient in SolidWorks (required); experience with AGI32 or Dialux preferred.

  • High attention to detail and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills, with a focus on customer service.

  • Strong ability to innovate and think creatively within an engineering environment.


Experience:

  • Experience supporting engineered solutions involving customer service.

  • Ability to manage and contribute to both technical execution and strategic growth.


Travel Requirements:

  • Monthly travel across North America to trade shows and client meetings.

  • Occasional short-notice travel to customer sites for installation support or issue resolution.

  • Overseas travel 1–2 times per year.
