Enterprise Application Engineer

Looking for an experienced Enterprise Application Developer to join our team in Hackensack, NJ. The primary focus of this role will be to ensure the stability, availability, and supportability of our Firm's Enterprise application stack. You will collaborate closely with the Enterprise Applications Manager, Accounting, Marketing, Records, and other firm personnel to ensure optimal performance and uninterrupted operation of all applications. Strong communication, technical, and analytical skills are a must, with a particular emphasis on Windows Server and SQL (including querying, reporting in SSIS and other tools, maintenance, documentation, and upgrades). While some programming knowledge is desirable, expert-level proficiency is not required.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Take charge of administering, developing, and supporting our Firm's Elite 3E platform, which includes Thompson Reuters Elite 3E, Paperless Performa, Design Gallery ("DG"), Workspace, and Iridium.
  • Handle various responsibilities within our firm's financial/marketing application stack, such as:
    • Scheduling month-end maintenance activities, including Windows updates, SQL maintenance, query optimization, and security patching.
    • Coordinate with different departments during system upgrades and assess and communicate the risk factors associated with upcoming upgrades, particularly when integrated systems create a "trickle-down" effect.
    • Collaborate with application stakeholders and the IT team to prioritize and address issues while planning for future objectives for financial systems.
    • Take responsibility for testing financial system applications during system changes, enhancements, upgrades, and monthly system maintenance.
    • Create documentation outlining system setup, integrations, backup procedures, and disaster recovery processes.
    • Effectively communicate project statuses, issues, and proposed resolutions to the department and management.
    • Manage vendor support tickets.
    • Monitor and optimize system performance and storage utilization, and plan necessary hardware or software upgrades to accommodate system growth.
    • Conduct research and evaluation of new tools and technologies to improve our current application stack.
    • Utilize tools to protect application source code and maintain versioning.
    • Perform any additional responsibilities as required by management.
  • Other responsibilities include:
    • Administering and maintaining Compulaw and its integrations.
    • Providing basic troubleshooting and maintenance support for "end user" applications such as FasTax, B&A Forms, Allstate legal forms, LexisNexis, etc.
    • Providing support for requests/tickets escalated from the helpdesk team.
  • Create documentation for processes, procedures, "how-to" guides, and frequently asked questions resolution.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working with legal accounting and time management software, preferably with experience in Elite 3E.
  • Preferred fluency in the Elite 3E SQL database schema or demonstrated ability to develop such fluency.
  • Experience with maintaining 3E Templates ("Design Gallery"), Workspace, and BizTalk.
  • Proficiency in Elite Application Framework and Tools, such as IDE.
  • Knowledge of 3E Solutions Manager is a plus.
  • Proficient in SQL reporting ("SSRS").
  • Ability to learn functional and technical integration aspects of our firm's applications, such as Iridium, Foundations, and Concur.
  • Experience administering Windows Server.
  • Strong technical foundation with the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex problems and implement solutions with minimal guidance.
  • Self-motivated individual with excellent time management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to communicate results effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with staff members of varying technical expertise.
  • Proficient in XML/XSLT transformation.
  • Knowledge of C# and Visual Basic .Net, HTML5 programming.

Non-essential Functions:

  • Take responsibility for communication, coordination, and providing "backup" for other members of the Information Technology Department as required to serve the firm and its clients.
  • This position is exempt and may require additional hours, weekend work, and holiday work, as necessary to fulfill job duties.
  • Attendance during firm administrative leave and closings may be required as this position is considered essential to the functioning of the firm.
  • Support and monitor compliance with firm policies and procedures related to the Information Technology Department.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in managing, designing, and implementing large enterprise applications in a heterogeneous operating system environment, with hands-on experience in maintaining mission-critical enterprise applications at a high level of availability.
  • Broad knowledge of computer science and business/management equivalent to a complete college or university education, including thorough skills knowledge.
  • 4-year college degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Technical Skills & Requirements:
At least 5 years' experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining Windows computer systems. Proficiency with Microsoft SQL is required, while working knowledge of Active Directory administration and maintenance is a plus. Experience with Thomson Reuters 3E and Foundations Experience management system administration is required, and familiarity with iManage document management system administration is advantageous. Demonstrated experience in supporting a large number of end users (300+) is essential.
