Job Title: Occupational Health and Safety Specialist

Location: Waterloo, IA

Salary: $60-90K with potential for bonus

Summary of the Occupational Health and Safety Specialist: The position of Occupational Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for overseeing and improving the safety, health, and environmental programs at our Waterloo, IA facility. This includes implementing safety protocols, ensuring compliance with regulations, and conducting investigations in the workplace to prevent accidents and maintain a safe working environment for employees. Additionally, this role will also play a part in environment-related tasks such as air quality and waste management.

Responsibilities of the Occupational Health and Safety Specialist:

  • Assist in developing and refining safety programs, policies, and procedures for the plant.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA and NIOSH requirements.
  • Monitor and assess work environment issues, such as noise levels and air quality, and coordinate necessary tests and examinations.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses, and provide detailed reports with recommendations for improvements.
  • Collaborate with the safety team to conduct regular safety audits and identify potential hazards.
  • Conduct safety walks throughout the manufacturing facility to address any safety concerns and promote a safety culture among employees.
  • Gather feedback from employees and maintain records of safety-related actions and incidents.
  • Input data into safety management systems and assist in the development and delivery of safety training programs for employees.
  • Work closely with supervisors and employees to ensure a proactive and safe approach to work.
  • Act as a liaison between manufacturing staff and safety management, and participate in emergency response procedures to ensure the safety of all personnel.

Education & Experience of the Occupational Health and Safety Specialist:

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Safety Management, or related discipline. Equivalent working knowledge will also be considered.
  • Prior experience in safety, health, and environmental disciplines is required.
  • Familiarity with plant safety policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and environmental laws and regulations.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and commitment to safety.
