Job Description


• Collaborate with the corporate ESSH team to establish and execute the ESSH strategy for Ascend • Create a comprehensive multi-year ESSH strategy specific to the Decatur facility, aligned with company goals of zero injuries and releases • Foster strong partnerships with stakeholders in all departments to ensure the ESSH team is seen as a valuable resource • Implement performance measures and routines to drive results • Cultivate a knowledgeable and capable ESSH team that can effectively contribute to the facility's success • Foster a culture of excellence in ESSH by promoting leadership commitment and employee engagement • Continuously improve employee knowledge and skills, and implement efficient systems and processes for enhanced ESSH performance


• Lead the development of a responsible and engaged organization focused on personal safety and the safety of others • Manage and guide the Decatur ESSH team, promoting their growth and development while ensuring compliance and improved performance • Provide leadership in preventing incidents and near misses through root cause analysis and behavioral modification • Contribute to long-range strategic planning and annual planning for air issues • Collaborate with various departments to identify and address problems, translating solutions into their frame of reference • Establish credibility as a leader and mentor, fostering a Commitment to Zero culture • Establish and enforce ESSH policies for the facility • Facilitate organizational change in partnership with the Site Leadership Team • Provide leadership in Process Safety Management • Develop and track metrics to drive continuous improvement • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards


• Establish objectives, select personnel, and implement change to enhance ESSH programs • Actively participate in developing and implementing ESSH management systems • Provide ongoing feedback and support to employees for their professional growth • Identify and support improvement projects with proper charters and resources • Monitor and review progress of corrective actions related to ESSH


• Reports to: ESSH Director, Chemical Operations and Process Safety (direct), Site Director (indirect) • Direct reports: Decatur ESSH Team • Peers: Site Leadership Team (SLT), other Site ESSH Leaders, Product Stewardship, Corporate ESSH Programs Manager



• Bachelor's degree or higher in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Science, or related field • At least ten (10) years of experience in the Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Petrochemical, and/or Oil & Gas Industry • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in ESSH • Knowledge of PSM requirements • Previous experience in Operations leadership preferred


• Certified Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt


• Broad understanding of environmental, health, and safety practices and standards • Proven leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization • Strong influencing skills and the ability to inspire others • Proficiency in developing and executing strategic plans • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously • Committed to customer success • Proficient in MS Office


• Familiarity with MARSEC levels and CFATS in relation to site security • Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems • Familiarity with ACC RCMS or RC-14001 Management System • Experience with incident investigation techniques (e.g., Cause Mapping, 5 Why, FMEA, etc.
