Field Engineer – Heavy Highway

We are seeking a Highway Construction Engineer to join our team in Wesley Chapel, FL. As a member of the project operations team, the Highway Construction Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting project staff, Superintendents, and Foreman. The main responsibilities of this position include planning, coordinating, documenting, and ensuring the efficiency of assigned craft-work. To excel in this role, the Highway Construction Engineer will need to effectively communicate and collaborate with craft supervision, owners, vendors, subcontractors, and other members of the project team.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Estimate Turnover Meeting and perform quantity takeoff
  • Assist in converting the estimate to a control budget and set up job files
  • Coordinate and review submittals
  • Support engineering staff in procuring material suppliers and subcontractors
  • Attend and actively participate in daily and weekly safety meetings
  • Manage quantities and perform necessary takeoffs
  • Procure and schedule subcontractors and materials
  • Effectively manage subcontractors and suppliers with the support of staff, superintendents, and foremen
  • Assist in developing work plans and closely monitor their execution
  • Accurately manage quantity and cost reporting, providing updates to superintendents and foremen
  • Assist in pricing change orders when necessary
  • Participate in the project document control process
  • Maintain accurate records of project drawings and specifications
  • Contribute to the project closeout process, including final cost reports and turnover of required documents to the owner
  • Create as-built drawings
  • Perform miscellaneous and other duties as required

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2-3 years of recent experience in heavy highway, road, and bridge construction (prior internship with a heavy civil contractor preferred)
  • Experience with medium to large projects (>$10M)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline is preferred
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
