Field Engineer

The Site Technician plays a crucial role in the project operations team. Their primary responsibility is to provide support to project staff, Superintendents, and Foreman in order to ensure that assigned craftwork is effectively planned, efficient, well understood, and thoroughly documented. The successful candidate for this position will need to effectively communicate between craft supervision, owners, vendors, subcontractors, and other members of the project team. This position is based in Charlotte, NC.

Essential Functions

  • Participate in the Estimate Turnover Meeting and perform quantity takeoff
  • Assist in the conversion of the estimate into a control budget and assist with the setup of job files
  • Coordinate and review submittals
  • Assist the engineering staff in procuring material suppliers and subcontractors
  • Attend and actively participate in daily and weekly safety meetings
  • Manage quantities and perform necessary quantity takeoffs
  • Procure and schedule subcontractors and materials
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers with the support of staff, superintendents, and foremen
  • Assist in the development of work plans in coordination with project engineer, superintendents, and foremen, and monitor work plans
  • Manage quantity and cost reporting as accurately as possible and report the results to superintendents and foremen
  • Assist in the pricing of change orders as needed
  • Participate in the project document control process
  • Maintain an accurate record set of project drawings and specifications
  • Participate in the project closeout process, including the final quantities of cost reports and final quantities and payment from the owner
  • Prepare as-built drawings
  • Ensure turnover of all required documents to the owner
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as required

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2-3 years of recent experience in heavy highway, road, and bridge construction (prior experience as an intern with a heavy civil contractor preferred)
  • Experience with medium to large projects (over $10M) is required
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a similar discipline is preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
