Field Engineer

Civil Construction Field Engineer

Salary Range: $120,000 – $185,000, based on experience

Position Overview:
We are seeking a Field Engineer to join our team at Newark Airport. Reporting to the Project Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the successful execution of construction activities on complex infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on role that requires strong technical acumen, field coordination, and effective communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review construction documents and assist in developing detailed construction schedules aligned with project milestones.

  • Coordinate with subcontractors to facilitate material procurement and ensure timely delivery of preconstruction submittals.

  • Solicit and review vendor quotes, draft subcontractor agreements, and ensure contract compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Prepare and distribute work plan packages; conduct pre-construction meetings to confirm all project prerequisites are in place.

  • Monitor daily field operations, perform layout and field checks, and ensure construction aligns with design specifications—consulting with design engineers when necessary.

  • Manage documentation and communication for subcontractors and material suppliers, including submittals, RFIs, performance tracking, and payment records.

  • Assist with monthly schedule updates, progress reporting, and issue logs, ensuring accurate project reporting and timely resolution of challenges.

  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to changing site conditions or unforeseen project impacts.

  • Enforce quality standards, secure required permits, and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations.

  • Lead project closeout activities, ensuring proper documentation and coordination with clients, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.

  • 3–4+ years of experience in civil construction.

  • Strong working knowledge of construction safety protocols and current OSHA/federal regulations.

  • Proficient in project controls, including estimating, cost tracking, forecasting, and contract management.

  • Understanding of critical path scheduling and resource planning.

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and Primavera P6.

  • Highly organized with strong time management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in the field.

  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a results-driven mindset.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative project team.
