Field Service Manager – Los Angeles (1661)

Description:
The Field Service Manager (Analytical Instruments) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and support activities of Field Service Technicians in the Los Angeles area. This role involves managing a team of approximately 12 skilled technicians who specialize in troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating analytical instrumentation used in research and medical laboratories. Please note that this is not a position for managing copiers or automotive services. The Los Angeles Field Operations Manager reports to the Service Manager for the Western Region.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and supervise a team of Field Service Technicians, including conducting interviews, making hiring recommendations, developing staff, assigning and scheduling work, and appraising performance.
  • Ensure proper training and continual advancement of skills for Field Service Technicians. Conduct staff training as necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with service department policies and procedures, including corporate and industry safety and quality standards, as well as ISO17025 requirements.
  • Compile and maintain operational records, such as repair time records, repair and maintenance statistics, and test results.
  • Report trends of product failures and/or weaknesses to the appropriate product groups.
  • Implement systems to monitor performance of Service Technicians, using SAP software and Excel macros to calculate metrics such as MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure), MTTR (Mean Time To Repair), revenue per head, and profit margins.
  • Oversee the identification and routine calibration of test equipment required for ISO/IEC 17025 calibrations.
  • Possess a minimum of 3 years' experience working in a technical services environment.
  • Attend mandatory annual in-house technical training courses to stay up-to-date on new developments in the field. Certificates will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of each program.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of engineering science and technology, both in theory and practice.
  • Proficient in using electronic schematics, electronic testing equipment, and repair tools to assist and support service engineers.
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, chemical engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • Possess analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills.
