Fire Alarm and Suppression Systems Technician
We are seeking skilled professionals in the field of fire safety systems who have a strong commitment to customer support and life safety.
The selected individual will be responsible for conducting inspections, carrying out installations, performing tests, providing service, and conducting repairs on fire alarm systems as well as engineered and pre-engineered suppression systems. Compliance with relevant life-safety and fire-safety requirements is a crucial aspect of this role, as per standards, codes, manufacturers' specifications, federal, state, and local regulations, customer needs, and the company's expectations. This position demands quick thinking and efficiency, and it holds high importance within the organization.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Install, inspect, and test various types of fire alarm systems as well as engineered and pre-engineered suppression systems at the required intervals in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the applicable NFPA codes and standards
- Program, test, conduct final inspections, create as-built drawings, and provide customer training for installations
- Troubleshoot and complete service and repair tasks on fire alarm systems and engineered and pre-engineered suppression systems
- Record and document all inspections, repairs, discrepancies, and recommendations either electronically or manually
- Maintain a positive and cooperative relationship with customers and relay information to the relevant personnel for follow-up, quotations, queries, or concerns
- Keep the assigned vehicle clean and organized, and ensure it is stocked with the necessary parts, equipment, and supplies required for the job
- Maintain all equipment and tools necessary to perform the job safely
- Evaluate customer sites to identify additional equipment and services that the customer may require
- Adhere to the company's safety program and work in compliance with it
- Conduct on-site and/or remote (phone) emergency troubleshooting for fire alarm and suppression systems
- Discuss identified deficiencies with the customer, explaining the problem and providing solutions
- There may be occasions that require working nights, weekends, and/or holidays. The frequency and necessity of such demands may vary across different locations. You can discuss this with your Manager
- Must be comfortable working at heights, on ladders or lifts, or in confined spaces
QUALIFICATIONS
- Hold a valid state fire alarm/suppression license
- Preferably possess NICET Certification in Fire Alarm Systems
- Desire experience with electrical wiring and circuitry
- Possess experience with fire alarm systems, including alarm and detection, notification, sprinkler monitoring, and interfaces and controls for agent releasing suppression systems (either agent or water-based systems). This experience can be in any of the following roles/functions:
- installation
- inspection
- testing
- commissioning
- technical system estimating and sales
- plans preparation
- maintenance
- Proficient in basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentages
- Adequate knowledge and ability to understand and operate basic computer functions. Additionally, willingness to learn and utilize industry-specific devices and software
- Understanding of low voltage and wiring principles
- Capability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams
- Must currently possess a valid U.S. driver's license
