Forensic Mechanical Engineer (remote)

Location: Cincinnati, OH


Job Title: Remote Forensic Mechanical Engineer

(Remote position with travel requirement to project sites within the Central US)


The role entails the following responsibilities:

  • Performing inspections to identify potential losses caused by mechanical system failures

  • Gathering and analyzing data at the site of a loss

  • Evaluating relevant codes, standards, and regulations

  • Documenting evidence and investigation findings

  • Photographing damage and evidence related to fires, explosions, or other losses

  • Conducting tests and acquiring data in the field and laboratory settings

  • Conducting examinations in laboratory facilities

  • Providing system failure analyses

  • Preparing expert reports based on research and findings

  • Interviewing witnesses, property owners, and building occupants for investigation purposes

  • Providing testimony in court cases related to investigated losses

  • Traveling as required


  • Proficient understanding and application of the scientific method in loss investigations

  • Continuous education to keep abreast of fire investigation knowledge specified in NFPA 1033

  • Physical ability to maneuver through fire and explosion scenes, including crawling, climbing, and using ladders

  • Capability to obtain and maintain relevant PPE certifications

  • Ability to analyze loss sites and identify potential failures

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems


A Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is required. Professional Engineering Registration is mandatory. Preferred experience includes a minimum of 4-6 years in investigative roles.
