Job Description - Histopathology Technician
Location: Rye Brook, NY
Responsibilities
- Conduct various technical procedures in the field of histopathology, utilizing a wide range of laboratory materials and equipment
- Ensure the preservation of specimen integrity from arrival to the completion of the entire process
- Record detailed gross descriptions for each specimen, including anatomical site, size, color, weight, dimensions, count, volume, cut techniques, abnormal findings, and perform tissue dissection and preparation for cassettes
- Promptly escalate unusual and complex specimens to a Grossing Tech II, Supervisor, or Pathologist
- Maintain accurate and organized work records
- Prepare dissected tissue specimens and properly place them into cassettes
- Perform Quality Control and Quality Assurance Procedures
- Label requisitions, specimen containers, and cassettes as required
- Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring routine maintenance and quality controls are completed
- Operate, clean, and sterilize laboratory equipment, glassware, instruments, and workstation
- Follow proper guidelines for the disposal of hazardous chemical wastes
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality in handling patient information
- Adhere to all State, Federal, and professional regulations, as well as company and departmental rules, policies, and procedural manuals
- Receive training on reasonable safeguards and maintain strict confidentiality, complying with applicable privacy and security standards

- Salary range: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour (commensurate with experience; geographic differentials may apply)
Qualifications
Successful completion of one of the following: |
- Associate's degree in biology or chemistry |
- NAACLS accredited histotechnology program |
- Associate's degree with 12 semester hours of biology or chemistry |
Hold a valid New York State license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Technician or Histological Technician |
