Location: Syracuse, NY
Setting: Occupational Health Clinical Center
Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Work Arrangement: On-site with the flexibility to work remotely one day per week
Compensation: $75,000 per year (DOE)

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Outreach and Education Coordinator / Grant Writer to join a mission-driven Occupational Health Clinical Center in Syracuse, NY. This pivotal role blends public health outreach, educational programming, grant writing, and research support. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, adept at crafting compelling grant proposals, building relationships in the community, and advancing public health education initiatives.

This position is crucial for the success of the clinic’s outreach and preventive services and offers the opportunity to contribute to academic initiatives by teaching and mentoring students in public health and occupational health disciplines.


Key Responsibilities:

Outreach & Education:

  • Lead the ongoing development of outreach and education programs.

  • Design and implement outreach initiatives and educational activities.

  • Conduct needs assessments to focus efforts and improve impact.

  • Increase program visibility among target groups and the general public.

  • Build connections with community leaders (e.g., union leaders, attorneys).

  • Coordinate and oversee activities of external agencies contracted for outreach services.

  • Maintain and update the center’s resource library and educational materials.

Grant Writing & Research:

  • Research and develop grant proposals to fund Occupational Health Center projects.

  • Write justifications for health grants and navigate them through the approval process.

  • Collect, organize, and analyze data to support center initiatives.

  • Prepare written reports and publications based on research findings.

  • Provide technical assistance to staff, patients, the medical community, unions, and others.

  • Utilize data tools such as SAS, Excel, NVivo, MaxQDA for analysis.

Academic & Mentorship Duties:

  • Opportunity to teach 1–2 graduate courses/seminars annually for medical and public health students.

  • Supervise MPH and other students using the center as a field placement site.

  • Mentor students on independent research projects in public health and occupational health.

  • Contribute to the Health Systems Science Intersession on Population Health.


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health with additional graduate-level training in the social and behavioral aspects of occupational health (required).

  • 3–5 years of experience in academic and occupational health settings.

  • Doctoral degree in Public Health or a related social science field (preferred).

  • Strong initiative, passion for public health, and commitment to occupational health.

  • Ability to manage projects and collaborate with academic, community, and interdisciplinary teams.

  • Proficiency in public health and social science research methodologies.

  • Experience preparing grant proposals and academic publications.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

  • Academia background is a plus.
