Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Heavy Civil - Construction)
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to perform repair, maintenance, and service work on a variety of heavy construction equipment in field-based environments. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in diagnosing and repairing electrical, hydraulic, powertrain, and engine systems on large machinery. This is a hands-on role requiring mechanical expertise, field flexibility, and a commitment to safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities

Operate a service truck to perform field maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators, track hoes, and other machinery used in highway and heavy construction.

Conduct thorough inspections, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of heavy construction equipment and trucks.

Perform welding as required for equipment repairs.

Operate a crane to support maintenance and repair activities when needed.

Complete service records, documentation, and reports accurately and on time.

Perform preventative maintenance inspections and ensure timely execution of maintenance schedules.

Keep service vehicles and work areas clean and organized to support safety and efficiency.

Use equipment manuals and technical specifications to guide repair and maintenance work.

Safely operate a variety of diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools.

Communicate clearly with supervisors, vendors, and equipment operators regarding repair timelines and equipment status.

Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of construction machinery and industry safety protocols.

Diagnose and repair a variety of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues with heavy equipment.

Maintain a strong focus on safety in all aspects of equipment handling and maintenance.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic, preferably in a field setting.

Capable of lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying up to 70 pounds; ability to kneel, twist, bend, and climb as needed.

Must own a complete set of personal hand tools.

Physically fit and able to perform strenuous tasks in varying environments.

Manual dexterity required to use hand tools and manipulate small parts.

Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Comfortable with basic math concepts, including rate, ratio, percentages, and construction math.

Valid driver's license with the ability to travel as needed.

Strong analytical skills and the ability to define problems, collect and evaluate data, and reach effective conclusions.

Ability to interpret technical diagrams, manuals, and mathematical instructions.

Must be able to walk and maneuver around active construction sites and terrain.

Willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions including rain, heat, snow, and wind.
