O&M Technician – High Voltage Electrician

Location: Providence, RI
Employment Type: Full-Time | Shift Work (10-hour shifts)

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled O&M Technician – High Voltage Electrician to join our power generation team. This role focuses on maintaining and troubleshooting high-voltage electrical systems and equipment to ensure operational reliability and safety. Candidates should have strong experience in electrical maintenance within industrial or power plant settings, with hands-on expertise in switchgear, motors, breakers, and high-voltage operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct all work in a safe, professional, and environmentally responsible manner

  • Maintain and repair high-voltage equipment and systems (e.g., 4160V breakers, motors, transformers)

  • Perform predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance

  • Execute high-voltage switching orders, remote and manual racking of breakers

  • Ground motors, transformers, and circuit breakers; conduct Megger testing

  • Read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics

  • Remove and replace generator bushings and flex links with documented training

  • Participate in equipment tag-outs, outages, weekend and holiday shifts

  • Manage contractors and support training of other electricians

  • Ensure compliance with safety programs including OSHA and QEW standards


Preferred Qualifications

Must have at least one of the following:

  • Electrical Maintenance: Troubleshooting high-voltage switchgear, motors, and plant wiring using precision test equipment

  • Instrumentation & Control: Breaker setting, relay programming, understanding MCC control systems

  • Mechanical Maintenance: Mechanical repair of high-voltage equipment


Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of relevant high-voltage experience, preferably in a power plant setting

  • Strong knowledge of high-voltage electrical safety practices

  • Experience managing high-voltage electrical switching and grounding procedures

  • Capable of performing physical tasks: lifting 40–75 lbs., climbing, bending, kneeling, etc.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and technical software tools

  • Strong communication, organization, and decision-making skills

  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing work priorities

  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a team


Certifications & Training

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • OSHA/CPR Certification

  • High Voltage Switching Training (Documented)

  • Switchman & QEW Training (Documented)
