HIM Manager / Health Information Manager

LOCATION: Miles City, Montana

Qualifications:
•A Bachelor's degree in health information management (HIM) or equivalent education and certifications are required.
•A Master's degree in business administration or health administration is preferred.
•Three years of experience in hospital and professional coding (in-patient and out-patient) is required.
Hours and compensation:
•This is a full-time position.
•The salary range is between $54K-$80K, plus comprehensive benefits and relocation/sign-on bonus.
Responsibilities:
•Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of health information in compliance with federal and state laws and the Medical Center's mission. Supervise HIM services, including coding, reimbursement processes, release of information, birth registry, tumor registry, chart completion, health information privacy, and documentation.
•Manage the daily operations of the coding unit, including workload and staffing. Responsible for hiring, disciplining, and conducting performance appraisals. Provide training and monitor work quality.
•Develop long-range and short-term goals, objectives, plans, and programs. Ensure effective implementation.
•Assist in planning, developing, and controlling the budget for the coding unit, including staffing costs and capital equipment. Oversee unit operations.
•Evaluate the impact of program, policy, and procedure changes. Design and implement systems and methods to improve data accessibility. Identify, assess, and resolve problems. Prepare administrative reports.
•Monitor and maintain acceptable accounts receivables associated with uncoded charts.
•Oversee and monitor the coding compliance program. Develop and coordinate educational and training programs on coding compliance for coding staff, physicians, billing staff, and ancillary departments. Ensure proper dissemination and communication of regulatory, policy, and guideline changes.
•Conduct and oversee coding audits and monitor coding accuracy and documentation adequacy. Report noncompliance issues and follow-up audit results to hospital directors and compliance officer.
•Analyze coding practices and case-mix-index for trends and variations. Compare coding and reimbursement profile with national and regional norms to identify areas for further investigation.
•Review claim denials and rejections related to coding and medical necessity. Implement corrective action plans to prevent recurring denials and rejections.
•Oversee chart completion for accuracy and timeliness. Advocate for release of information and provide patient portal assistance.
•Collaborate with Information Services to ensure data integrity and accurate documentation practices.
•Monitor release of medical information in compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
•Maintain complete and accurate filing of tumor registry cases with the Montana Central Tumor Registry.
•Maintain complete and accurate filing of birth registry cases with the Montana registry.
•Ensure accuracy and necessity of documents scanned to patient records.

Our facility is a 25-bed critical access hospital that offers a fantastic team environment. The department comprises approximately 8 individuals, some of whom work remotely.
