I&C Technician


We are seeking an Instrumentation and Control Technician to join our team in Barstow, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance of our power plant and all associated equipment. You will provide support services for various measuring and indicating equipment and systems, performing tasks such as calibration, tap cleaning, equipment inspection, repair, and troubleshooting. Your expertise in control valves will ensure proper operation. Additionally, you will provide technical guidance to different departments and facilities and train and mentor less experienced maintenance personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned as needed)

§ Compliance with all company safety and environmental policies and practices, ensuring a safe work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors.

§ Understanding and following proper procedures for the control and shipment of hazardous waste streams.

§ Performing corrective, predictive, and preventive maintenance on instrumentation equipment, maintaining records, reports, and a daily log.

§ Diagnosing instrument malfunctions and failures of associated operational equipment.

§ Planning, directing, and recording periodic instrumentation testing, recommending or initiating equipment modification or replacement where necessary.

§ Testing, calibrating, and repairing control valves and associated components.

§ Developing instrument diagrams, layout drawings, and engineering specifications for system or equipment modification or expansion.

§ Providing oversight for instrumentation installation by third-party contractors.

§ Maintaining clean and safe conditions in the plant area, shop equipment, tools, and grounds.

§ Taking immediate corrective action in emergency situations to minimize safety hazards and reduce damage or downtime to the plant and its equipment.

§ Monitoring and performing maintenance work, including disassembly, repair, and assembly of equipment, calibration, and troubleshooting.

§ Operating various heavy equipment, such as forklifts, cranes, man lifts, machine tools, and instrumentation test equipment.

§ Reading, interpreting, and implementing technical information such as drawings, manufacturer's data, and operating and maintenance procedures.

§ Documenting equipment problems, writing work orders, work instructions, and maintenance repair requests. Issuing clearance to ensure safety and maintaining a log of all open and closed clearances.

§ Continuously improving personal skills and training co-workers in instrumentation-related areas. Providing technical guidance to supervisors and managers.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE - A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not required. Completion of relevant technical or vocational training and an accredited instrumentation apprenticeship program is desired. Candidates should have 3-4 years of power plant maintenance experience. The ideal candidate would possess knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical equipment, including systems construction, capacities, limitations, theories of operation, and operating procedures. Familiarity with plant design, equipment locations, valve configurations, and typical production levels is important. Candidates should also have knowledge of complex instrumentation and automatic control systems, safe use of tools, plant safety rules, probable causes of equipment and system malfunctions, and basic knowledge of electrical test equipment and troubleshooting. Basic to intermediate computer skills in word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software is required.
