Our organization is seeking a passionate and driven individual to join our Investment Stewardship team as a Vice President. In this role, you will be responsible for managing stewardship engagement and voting on behalf of our clients invested in active strategies globally. This position is a great opportunity to work in a new and innovative function, and we are looking for high-performing associates and VPs located between London and New York.

The Investment Stewardship team is part of the Portfolio Management Group (PMG), which oversees various investment strategies including Fixed Income, Fundamental Equities, Private Credit, Systematic Investments, Multi-Asset Strategies and Solutions, and Private Investors Businesses. Our activities are guided by our Global Engagement and Voting Guidelines, as well as insights from active investment analysts and portfolio managers. We work closely with these teams to engage with companies and drive positive change.

As a Vice President, you will be responsible for voting and engagement in relation to a specific universe of companies. You will collaborate with active investors to provide support on portfolio company analysis, engagement preparation and follow up, and assessing corporate governance prior to voting. Your expertise will be focused on a subset of the companies within the engagement universe, and you will contribute to the achievement of our annual and long-term goals. You will report to the Deputy Head.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Utilizing your expertise in analyzing company performance, corporate governance, and material sustainability-related practices.

  • Preparing for and participating in engagement meetings with portfolio companies, alongside active investors.

  • Learning and applying engagement priorities, proxy voting policies, and key industry initiatives that impact policies and practices.

  • Gathering and analyzing data to support voting decisions and policy positions.

  • Assisting in the preparation of position papers for issue discussion with broader audiences.

  • Identifying opportunities to improve policy and business processes within the team, and collaborating with relevant counterparts in the active investment business.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with colleagues and contributing to cross-platform initiatives.

Your tasks will include:

  • Preparing for engagement with senior representatives of portfolio companies, including crafting memos and highlighting key data for use in engagement efforts.

  • Coordinating with active investors to establish meeting agendas, questions, and objectives.

  • Participating in industry research groups and thematic initiatives with the active investment teams.

  • Attending, documenting, and leading engagement efforts, including recording research notes for internal use.

  • Monitoring policy developments to enhance guidelines.

  • Contributing to peer benchmarking analysis and modeling for engagement and voting practices.

  • Monitoring proxy voting workflow and ensuring compliance with guidelines.

  • Supporting the development of position papers and reporting.

  • Analyzing shareholder meeting agendas and materials for consistent adherence to corporate governance policies.

  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure client reporting and presentations meet expectations, and promptly addressing client queries on corporate governance.

  • Reviewing and optimizing team output and working practices to minimize risks and maximize performance.

Desired qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in finance, economics, accounting, political science, history, sustainability, or a related field.

  • 4-6 years of experience in a financial services focused role, with strong knowledge of financial statements and corporate finance.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to senior-level audiences.

  • A diligent and focused work ethic, capable of managing multiple tasks and changing priorities.

  • The ability to prioritize, analyze, and resolve complex issues under time pressure, while maintaining attention to detail.

  • An organized, self-reliant, and self-motivated approach to work.

  • A keen interest in corporate governance and sustainable business practices.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative working style, with the ability to build and maintain successful relationships.

  • Proficiency in using Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft products.

Qualifications:
  • An undergraduate degree in finance, economics, accounting, political science, history, sustainability, or a related field.
