Lab Scientist
Location: Indianapolis, IN
The role of a Laboratory Technician is to perform various laboratory procedures, both routine and non-routine, in order to provide high quality analytical chemistry service to customers. This includes sample extraction and instrumental analysis. As part of a team, the Technician may also assist in technical training, as well as lead and support the development of new methods and procedures.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct a variety of clinical laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, molecular, and urinalysis as assigned.
• Ensure quality control on all instruments and perform testing for instruments.
• Perform molecular extraction of patient samples.
• Oversee the work of lab assistants and technicians, cross checking for errors.
• Update QC Reagent logs on a daily basis.
• Clean and sterilize work area on a regular basis.
• Operate and maintain various instruments including clinical analyzer, HPLC, LC/MS, and GC/MS.
• Perform routine maintenance and monitor equipment performance.
• Identify and troubleshoot instrumentation issues, and contact vendors for assistance when necessary.
• Provide accurate results following documented procedures.
• Ensure timely production of results to meet client turnaround time requirements.
• Conduct analytical work using appropriate techniques and in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Write and update Standard Operating Procedures.
• Prepare reagents and reference materials for chemical analyses.
• Receive, access, and log client samples.
• Maintain work-related documentation in hard copy and/or electronic form.
• Track supply, reagent, and reference material inventories, and initiate purchase requisitions if needed.
• Contribute to the team's work in a flexible manner with minimal supervision.
• Willing to perform additional analyses as required.
• Comply with HIPPA guidelines and regulations.
• Adhere to all company policies and safety procedures.
• Process and handle blood and/or other biological specimens according to established procedures, and provide instructions to patients for proper sample collection.
• Conduct quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids like blood and urine.
• Perform quality control on test results to ensure validity and accuracy.
• Calibrate and troubleshoot testing systems and instruments to maintain accuracy.
• Maintain records and reports on results in accordance with established procedures.
• Practice safety, environmental, and infection control methods.
• Perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
• Adhere to strict attendance standards.
• Comply with all HIPPA guidelines.
• Adhere to all health and safety standards set by the company.
• Perform a range of clinical laboratory tests and chemical analyses on biological samples.
• Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
• Ability to draw intravenous and peripheral blood.
• Knowledge of laboratory and experimental protocols and procedures.
• Knowledge of culture procedures and techniques.
• Ability to calibrate, configure, and troubleshoot laboratory testing systems and instruments.
• Ability to isolate and identify specimens using advanced laboratory techniques and equipment.
• Knowledge of sterile procedures.
• Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a similar lab setting.
• Proficiency in LIS.
• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science.
• Master's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related science.
• ASCP Certification AMT - AAB.
Requirements:
• At least 1 year of relevant laboratory experience or an advanced degree in a related discipline.
• Proficiency in computer usage, especially with Microsoft Office products.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Meticulous and attentive to detail.
• Familiarity with scientific principles and practices.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and speak English.
• Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
• Ability to prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols.
• Ability to monitor and maintain quality control standards.
• Proficient in records maintenance.
• Strong ability to perform a range of clinical laboratory tests and chemical analyses on biological samples.
• Knowledge of relevant accreditation and certification requirements.
• Ability to draw intravenous and peripheral blood.
• Familiarity with laboratory and experimental protocols and procedures.
• Familiarity with culture procedures and techniques.

• Minimum of five (2) years' experience in a similar lab setting.
• Proficient in LIS.
