Laboratory Operations Supervisor

Position Summary:
This document serves as an outline of the responsibilities for the Lab Operations Supervisor, overseen by the Manager of Operations Laboratory. The Lab Ops Supervisor is responsible for supervising the histo technician team and slide processing team. Collaborating closely with the Operations Laboratory Director, this role is crucial in implementing strategies to meet demands and maintain the high quality of service.
Main Responsibilities:
- Oversee and track project progress and timelines to ensure successful completion
- Provide training, validation, and optimization for IHC antibodies
- Establish and maintain processes to achieve project objectives and deliverables
- Collect data from all departments (IHC, Histology, Grossing, and slide scanning) and analyze workflow and TAT for optimization
- Manage day-to-day operations in specimen logistics, including staff supervision and streamlining laboratory operations
- Assist the laboratory operations manager in monitoring CAP and NYS DOH compliance requirements
- Update SOPs as necessary
- Troubleshoot LIS issues and serve as a contact point for LIS problems in the laboratory
- Perform and interpret QA/QC procedures; address and document corrective actions and their impact on data quality
- Manage inventory needs, communicate supply requirements to purchasing, and maintain necessary components, supplies, standards, and reagents
- Ensure compliance with laboratory practices and requirements outlined in protocols
- Collaborate with operations manager, support services manager, lab quality coordinator, and Safety Officer to improve laboratory efficiencies and processes
- Perform additional technical duties as a histo technician when required or assigned
- Establish and oversee the slide scanning QC/QM program
- Address and resolve issues with laboratory instruments and scanners according to protocol
- Train new team members
- Ensure the team meets established TAT benchmarks
- Evaluate and review performance of lab histo techs and slide scanning teams
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the laboratory leadership team
Experience/Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related scientific field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an Anatomical Laboratory. Valid Pathologist Assistant or Hist Tech License
