Position Summary:
The Waste Engineering Manager will be responsible for overseeing the management, maintenance, and operation of waste disposal sites, ensuring compliance with environmental, regulatory, and safety standards. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to supervise a team of engineers and technicians. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in waste engineering, waste management, and environmental compliance.
Primary Responsibilities:

Waste Site Design & Development: Lead the planning, implementation, and permitting of waste site expansions, closures, and new waste disposal locations. Supervise the creation and review of plans, technical reports, and studies related to waste site operations.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal environmental regulations concerning waste management, groundwater protection, and waste gas management. Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes.

Team Supervision & Project Management: Direct and mentor a team of engineers and environmental professionals. Lead projects from inception to completion, efficiently managing budgets, timelines, and resources.

Environmental Monitoring: Oversee the development and implementation of environmental monitoring programs, including groundwater sampling, leachate management, and waste gas monitoring systems.

Safety & Risk Management: Establish and implement safety protocols for waste site operations. Ensure compliance with safety standards to minimize risks to employees, contractors, and the surrounding community.

Budgeting & Cost Control: Monitor and track project budgets, providing regular updates and ensuring cost-effective solutions without compromising quality or safety.

Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with regulatory agencies, local communities, contractors, and other stakeholders to address concerns, ensure compliance, and manage external relationships.

Innovation & Sustainability: Identify and implement innovative and sustainable waste engineering practices to enhance waste site operations, minimize environmental impact, and improve operational efficiency.
Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).

Experience:
- A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in waste engineering or a related field, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or management role.
- Extensive experience in waste site design, operations, environmental compliance, and project management.
- Proven track record of successful project completion and team management.

Certifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Additional certifications such as Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) are advantageous.

Skills & Competencies:
- Thorough understanding of environmental regulations (RCRA, CERCLA, etc.) and industry best practices for waste site operations.
- Proficiency in waste site design software (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS, GeoStudio).
- Ability to manage complex projects and budgets.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
Physical Requirements:
- Capability to work in both office and field environments, including outdoor settings.
- Ability to travel to project sites for inspections, stakeholder meetings, and regulatory reviews.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of equipment (up to 30 lbs) during site visits.
