Maintenance Engineer

Salary : $95,000 - $110,000 + Bonus

A multi entity heavy manufacturer is seeking a Maintenance Engineer for its Pittsburgh, PA location. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability and sustainability of both new and existing equipment. The Maintenance Engineer will also act as a technical resource to the operations team, leading process and product improvement efforts. Additionally, the engineer will support manufacturing and maintenance through the MDI process and continuous improvement initiatives, troubleshoot technical problems, and oversee expense and CAPX projects. Key responsibilities include:


  • Analyze equipment failure data to identify patterns and trends, applying engineering principles to develop and implement countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence by developing or revising PMs with proper granularity and cadence.

    • Create PM strategies and spare parts lists.
    • Conduct root cause analysis to determine the underlying cause of equipment problems and maximize equipment uptime and throughput.
    • Develop and implement new maintenance procedures and standard work for repair.
    • Design and implement new procedures for monitoring and testing equipment.
    • Discover new technologies and processes that can enhance equipment performance and reliability.
    • Collaborate with other departments to ensure reliability is integrated into all aspects of the organization.
    • Manage a variety of capital and non-capital projects, utilizing project management fundamentals and knowledge of the FEL process.
    • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and delegate responsibilities as needed.
    • Schedule contractors and manage day-to-day activities to ensure timely project completion.
    • Improve equipment reliability and operation through data analysis and experimentation.
    • Implement plans to improve profitability by maximizing efficiency and reducing waste, speed, delay, and raw material usage using Lean Manufacturing principles.
    • Manage the coordination, implementation, and standardization of manufacturing process improvement and tooling.
    • Conduct work measurement studies, including time studies, process capability studies, and uptime studies to meet pre-determined goals before handing off projects to manufacturing.
    • Actively participate in continuous improvement teams, potentially serving as a facilitator of a team or group of teams.
    • Incorporate safety into all department activities and ensure safe working conditions in the manufacturing environment.
    • Research, justify, design, and implement new processes, tooling, and equipment.
    • Handle procurement activities, including obtaining and evaluating bids and making purchase recommendations.
    • Design countermeasures and conduct engineering trials to verify the effectiveness of corrective actions.


  • 4-year degree in engineering preferred.

  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience leading various types of projects, such as major equipment outages and installation of new equipment and processes, while directing internal and/or external resources.

  • Able to facilitate and complete root cause analysis (8-D, 5 why) and implement countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence.

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access. Must be detail-oriented with excellent communication and analytical skills.
