Maintenance Planner/Scheduler

Job Title: Maintenance Coordinator

Location: Bridgeport, CT

Position Summary: The Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for overseeing maintenance and engineering support functions, as well as managing plant improvement projects. This role requires expertise in planned overhaul project planning and execution, vendor and contractor supervision, and proficiency in plant maintenance computer programs and CMMS (Maximo). In addition, the Maintenance Coordinator may provide technical support for process improvements, coordinate with corporate engineering, and assume management responsibilities in the absence of the Maintenance Manager. Another key aspect of this position is service contract purchasing, including request for proposals and contract issuance. The Maintenance Coordinator's time will be allocated towards purchasing, pre-outage planning, daily work order planning, outage contract supervision, and post-outage feedback.

Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Evaluate and perform plant-specific functions related to preventive and predictive maintenance, availability improvement, and production cost:
A. Coordinate and conduct performance, functional, and surveillance testing of plant systems and components. Compare data with established standards, and interpret data to assess component wear, malfunction, and repair or replacement needs. Continuously strive to enhance the performance of all plant equipment.
B. Utilize various tools and analysis techniques to identify potential equipment issues that could lead to future forced outages.
C. Assist in the development of preventive maintenance and scheduled maintenance activities.
D. Plan outages for mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical disciplines, as well as engage in long-term planning.
E. Evaluate equipment failures and contribute to Root Cause Analysis to prevent recurrence.
F. Collaborate closely with the Operations Manager to track facility service hours, equivalent starts, and other operational parameters for combustion turbines. Update Major Maintenance Inspection schedules and projections for inspections and overhauls. Monitor component repairs and schedules to ensure timely availability of replacement or refurbished parts.

2. Assume the direction of personnel in the Maintenance Department in the absence of the Maintenance Manager. Ensure compliance with generating requirements, maintain plant efficiency, and uphold safety and environmental standards set by local, state, and federal regulations. Ensure completion and closure of facility work orders using the CMMS.

3. Collaborate with the General Manager and Maintenance Manager in developing annual maintenance budgets.

4. Take responsibility for the site's CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System - Maximo). Effectively use the CMMS to schedule work, prioritize work orders, manage inventory, and procure necessary parts and materials.

5. Provide coaching, training, and development opportunities for the maintenance team, keeping their skill sets up to date and relevant to their assigned tasks.

6. Assist in investigating plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events. Provide thorough analyses, recommendations, reports, and appropriate follow-up plans.

7. Conduct inspections of boilers, pressure vessels, turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment during forced and annual outages, as required.

8. Offer technical support in preparing specifications, evaluating bid proposals, and monitoring contractor work to ensure compliance with contractual agreements. Oversee contractors during outages to guarantee the execution of proper QA/QC procedures.

9. Engage in coordination with Corporate Engineering, engage in external communications with maintenance and engineering firms, manufacturer sales representatives, service personnel, and vendors. These interactions are meant to address field changes, discuss new or modified equipment, resolve issues, and exchange pertinent information. Internally, maintain frequent contact with various plant personnel, including shift supervisors, technicians, and operations and maintenance staff, to resolve problems, provide technical support, and exchange relevant information.

10. Manage request for proposals, evaluate bids, and assist in the contract awarding process, ensuring compliance with applicable policies and procedures.

11. Assist the maintenance manager in managing inventory and warehouse operations. Ensure that issued warehouse items are re-ordered as necessary.

12. Manage and update work packages and database.
13. Maintain and manage equipment reports and database.

Additional Requirements:
• Possession of a valid driver's license.
• Occasional overnight travel may be required.
• Physical ability to navigate plant facilities and stairways.
• Comfortable working in a standard office environment and proficient in operating computer systems and related equipment.
• Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Prior experience with Maximo, PeopleSoft (advanced user level).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word Macro Templates and completion of a technical writing course.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Education/Experience Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years' experience in power plant or similar environments.
• At least 5 years of experience supervising technical, supervisory, and administrative personnel preferred.
• Strong leadership and motivational skills required.
