Maintenance Supervisor (Industrial/Mechanical)

Salary $70,000 to $90,000 + RELOCATION ASSISTANCE
Our client is in need of a Maintenance Department Manager for their Metal/Manufacturing Facility. The Maintenance Department Manager is responsible for leading and supervising the maintenance crew to ensure efficient production of metal in a lean environment. Reporting to the Superintendent, this individual will oversee productivity, safety, quality, recovery, delivery performance, and problem-solving efforts, all while ensuring cost-effectiveness and customer satisfaction. Lean manufacturing principles will guide the organization towards achieving the target condition, resulting in waste elimination, improved flow, and high employee engagement levels.
Key Responsibilities
  • Promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety protocols;
  • Lead discussions and reviews focused on individual and job-specific safety;
  • Support operational outcomes by effectively managing subordinates in terms of quantity, quality, timeliness, safety, recovery, and delivery performance;
  • Develop crew members through challenging assignments, training, coaching, and mentoring;
  • Fairly allocate and assign work tasks based on business criticality and guidelines set by department management;
  • Plan crew arrangements for scheduled and unscheduled situations, considering absences, equipment availability, and labor agreement constraints;
  • Lead a diverse and customer-oriented maintenance workforce, emphasizing technical competence and responsiveness;
  • Collaborate with craftspeople to apply root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques to maintain or restore production;
  • Collect and analyze data to support root cause analysis and problem-solving efforts for major exceptions;
  • Manage assets in a cost-effective manner, ensuring equipment operations, availability, and sustainability;
  • Drive quality, cost, waste elimination, and lean manufacturing objectives;
  • Make fair and justified decisions regarding performance recognition, rewards, and disciplinary actions;
  • Build relationships, persuade others, and resolve interpersonal issues to achieve customer satisfaction;
  • Work 12-hour shifts on a rotation basis, transitioning between day and night shifts every 6-12 weeks depending on business conditions.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) from an accredited institution;
  • At least 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience;
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience overseeing direct reports;
  • Eligible to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with cranes and hoists
  • Familiarity with union environments
  • Extensive knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles (ABS)
